My Dear Friend Kathy !
Thank you for your invitation.
Everyone will be celebrating the Labour Day -World Wide. But, sorry to say....there are few draw backs in our Labour Law over here in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. For example...Soon after any expatriate come to U.A.E. (anywhere in UAE)...right from the Airport...his/her passport is being held by the employer. Passport is a "Personal and Private Document" of the individual. But, here the law says, that, the employer should not hold the employees's passports. But,practically, it is something againt the law and order. If an expatriate is working for a particular company in UAE, even after the completion of the employment agreement/contract, the employee should get an Non Objection Certificate from his/her previous employee to change his/her sponser and go for another job. In short, the employee is directly under his/her employer's mercy...not only for the transfer of his/her sponser....but also...for his/her private requirements...like Driving Licence, Opening an Account in the Bank, Loan application from the bank, etc.etc.etc.
I can keep on additing mor......but, the space will be very less to add everything.
Will the International Labour Organisation & International Human Rights Commission will do anything on this?.....that is the question!
LONG LIVE LABOUR DAY !
With lots of Love and Affection !
Your Ever Loving Friend,
Mohamed Khadar Gani.
