Dear Nick,

Thanks for the Christmas wishes!

This Christmas  in Serbia is so rich with the snow and we enjoy it very much.

I wish to thank to our friend Terry for his efforts to "defend" Jesus ( a true faith) from our pagan customs. But, a true faith is a gift, which one become aware or not ...  So, for those who are not still aware of God`s Word ... I do believe that Jesus will accept even a mentioning His name on the days like the Christmas day is.

And if we, who considers ourselves as a God`s lovers, do not apprecite the   " widow lady`s  just two mites" .... I am sure Lord will look at us  in the same way as is told in next story:

Luke 16:19-31

[19] "There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. [20] At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores [21] and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

[22] "The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. [23] In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. [24] So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'

[25] "But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. [26] And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'

[27] "He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, [28] for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'

[29] "Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.'

[30] " 'No, father Abraham,' he said, 'but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.'

[31] "He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.' "

One is not only rich in bread and outer manners of compassion .... but also in understanding. Those who just celebrates (eat and drink, exchange presents and the congrats) we must consider as they give their 2 mites. And have to apprecite that.

If the priests ... all the time .... could consider others (the heard) as ORIGINATED ON BEHALF of GOD`S WILL, with a true love and appreciatetion (and UNDERSTANDING is first and basic CONDITIO SINE QUA NON a true love and appreciattion !!!!) human history could really be HISTORY OF ALIVE JESUS .

I am sure, the worst man in the world, has his way to love God ... if we "true" and humble Christians permit him to do that.

Loving Jesus - is just about LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION.

Merry Christmas to all!

Branka

HELLO NICK!

PEACE to my Orhtodox friends!

Very nice idea of yours to set up a topic about Orthodox Christmas. In Some countries the Othodox Chrisitians follow the old calendar and in other they  turned over to the new.

Greece is typical orthodox country. 96% of the people are in papers at least orthodox! Since 1923 Greece follows offically the new calendar. A small percetage are folowers of the old caledar. In some cases I find the old calendar better. I ambaptized in a new calender churche meaning that i belong to the new calender followers.
The old calendar followers are more traditional and there are som few differences in the sacraments.
The only real difference I find is of the kind "which is the leading Patriarcy".

There are 5 central geographical Patriarchies: Constantinopel, Moscow, Antioch, Alexandria and Jerusalem. First in priority and leading is the Patriarchy in Constantinople.
