Eastern Orthodox Christmas

Honoring the birth of Christ

To all my special Adland Brothers and Sisters who are celebrating this special day of January 7th

The Eastern Orthodox religions follow the Julian calendar, set 13 days behind the standard Gregorian calendar (our typical North American calendar). Some families who celebrate a traditional Eastern Orthodox Christmas on December 25 of the Julian calendar may appear to be celebrating long after the Gregorian Christmas has ended (thus celebrating may occur on January 7 of our standard calendar). Lent, or fasting, will end on this day, having begun on the First Day of Advent, 40 days earlier. Typically, Christmas Eve celebrations involve attending mass and blessing family and friends. On Christmas, gifts are not traditionally exchanged, however this is more commonplace now.

Nick,

I won't "hijack" this forum as I've been accused of recently, but I will offer to send anyone interested about the truth of x-mas and its pagan origins, which makes it detestable to God, a video produced by people having nothing to do with my religion.

Anyone interested can send me a private message which includes their email address, as I will have to attach this video file to an email.

It's very interesting and informative viewing!

Terry

Thanks Nick!

Under the legend, the Savior was born on December, 25th 1-st year of a new era on accepted then in Roman empire julian calendar. The orthodox church continues readout of time on this calendar, therefore the orthodox Christmas on the Gregorian calendar standard today is necessary for January, 7th (on December, 25th on old style).
