Thanks for another song by these amazing young men.  Like you've said, one never gets tired of hearing from them.  Il Divo, remarkably enough, were originally signed by Simon Cowell, and he was instrumental in recruiting the only American in the group, Tenor David Miller.  Since Il Divo sings in English, Italian, Spanish, French, and Latin, I would suppose that wherever you are in the World, they have a song just for you.

12 Days of Christmas - The Story behind it.

From 1558 until 1829,
Roman Catholics in England were
not permitted to practice their faith openly.
Someone during that era wrote this carol as a
catechism song for young Catholics.

It has two levels of meaning:
the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning
known only to members of their church.

Each element in the carol has a code word for a
religious reality which the children could remember.



What does it all mean?

The partridge in a pear tree:
Jesus Christ.

Two turtle doves:
The Old and New Testaments.

Three French hens:
Faith, hope and love.

Four calling birds:
The four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

Five golden rings:
The first five books of the Old Testament.

Six geese a-laying:
Six days of creation.

Seven swans a-swimming:
The sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation,
Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.

Eight maids a-milking:
The eight beatitudes.

Nine ladies dancing:
The nine fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness,
Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.

Ten lords a-leaping:
The Ten Commandments.

The eleven pipers piping: The eleven faithful disciples.
