Letter to My MP: The following are reaction themes that I have and concur with to what has been happening in Ottawa. Some have termed it as a joke, amongst other less complimentary vocabulary.
1.) The distribution of the population, the seats and parties represented appear to me as follows, but I could be wrong and stand corrected: B.C. and Alberta together have 64 seats...36 and 24 respectively. Ontario has 106, Quebec has 75. Questions - Does Quebec have 117% grater population and produce 117% greater GDP than B.C.? (No). Does Ontario have 166% greater population and GDP than B.C or Alberta? Again No. DO EITHER QUEBEC OR ONTARIO EACH PAY FEDERAL INCOME TAXES 117 % AND 166 % GREATER THAN FOLKS IN BC AND AB?.NO - I don't think so.
If 61% of the ridings in Ontario elect a member from one party, it would not matter if every riding in BC and Alberta elected a member from the other party...the entire vote from the "west" would not matter one iota, irrelevant and could potentially be defeated by one member.
If 87% of Quebec ridings elected one party, the west would be defeated my one member.
If only 36% of Ontario and Quebec elected one party, the west would be defeated by one member, even if each western riding returned a member from the other party.
I wonder what would happen if the voting stations in the "east" would not open until, say noon, and close at midnight, so that the voters from "west" could feel that their vote mattered?
2.) During the "Members Statements" and especially "Question Period" sessions, I saw that questions where not stated, only heard most members' rhetorical negative statements about the other members and their perspective on what they felt about the confidence issue.
3.) I'm amazed at how quickly the news about Mr. Harper's statement of permission to prorogue parliament traveled to the House of Parliament. It was presented in the house within seconds of his presentation in front of Rideau Hall. I suppose there's rules & regulations that allow that to happen.
4.) I wonder what would happen if polling stations in the east would not open until - say noon and close at midnight.
