Hello Marilyn and Friends
Freedom of speech is, on many fronts, already a thing of the past. When I look at what happened during the national conventions this year I am appalled by the total disregard for our constitution.
It is very difficult to set the bar on abuse when presidential candidates lie about and slander each other at every turn. It would be nice if we could look to our political leaders to set a higher standard for pubic speaking but I am afraid the exact opposite is the reality. When our leaders can't even be respectful and honest, how do we set the standard for other public figures?
It was Imus that was chastised and fired for his comments about a women's basketball team. It was humor in poor taste but at least he was held to some standard. Unfortunately though, it was a standard that is not equally levied on all public figures.
Michael Savage is another very disrespectful radio host. The insult he waged aganst the parents of autistic children a while back was totally unwarrented and he should have been held at least as accountable as Imus was.
Without equal rights and equal protection under the laws, there might as well not be any laws.
Thank You Marilyn, for bringing up a very interesting and important topic.
Sincerely, Billdaddy
