GOOD DAY ALL AND HAPPY MONDAY....
Someone sent us an email about our discussion here and it touched on Mr. Obama and the flag pin episode,etc.
The person also asked about our flag, slavery, etc.; they refuse to post here and only want to observe and email us.
With that said let me share this :
If someone does not want to say the pledge all they have to do is keep their mouth shut. If you refuse openly this is a political statement. Further, I can't imagine any American refusing to say the pledge.
Now, about slavery, many people have a misconception of this country. America didn't legalize slavery it was a practice; it was in existence for thousands of years in other parts of the world as well. Anyone remember the " Hebrew slaves. " America was the first country to fight a civil war and abolish slavery. Over 50,000 young American's lost their lives to abolish slavery; there were a total of 500,000 killed or wounded. For those like Mr. Obama who wants to quote scripture and demean the pages of the Bible over this subject and point fingers, he should consider that there are countries on the United Nations Human Rights Commission, today that still condone slavery - The Sudan for one.
And since you touched on this matter as well, let's consider the American Indians. They may have been here first but civilizations have been displacing other civilations since the dawn of time. We as Americans are no more guilty of this than any other civilization.
Is the United States perfect, no, but no other country is either ? Consider that America must be a pretty good place to live because we have trouble keeping people out, other countries have trouble keeping people in.
I proudly say the pledge when it is recited and I actually like to sing our National Anthem, of course no body around me likes it when I do because I am loud and, " sound like a bull in heat. "
Next jump onto my cowboy hat... I was not here in 1885, so don't blame me for what others did then.
On another subject noted in the email, those who are over 45 years of age who are white - black - red etc., have had the same kind of opportunities to better their lives and to make this world a better place to live as did others, and as our young adults have now. So your argument is without merit.
If all you did for the past 40 years was to stand around and pout and complain about how terrible the world and America is, instead of getting out there to change it by obtaining an education and working for what you found pleasurable in this life... then you got exactly what you wanted... a bad attitude !!
