Hi Kathy,
You had to know I couldn't let this one pass me by :) I think the thing about Hillary Clinton is a clever way to start a rumour -- if the Conservative-led "Bilderbergs" wanted to ensure a Republican win, of course the best thing to do is be quick to point out how the opposition is hanging out with a bunch of power-hungry megalomaniacs bent on racial cleansing and world domination (even if that group is them!) !!
I don't deny that certain governments and certain heads of multinational corporations have vested interests in having things go their way as much as possible. But a several-centuries-long conspiracy to gradually unify the businesses and governments of the world into a single all-encompassing domination? Didn't George Lucas write this story?
"Everything that has happened has done so according to my design." -- Emperor Palpatine, Return of the Jedi
Conspiracy theories are fun, but most don't hold much water.
This one, for example, uses its own theories to prove its theory, and sequences of events that may or may not have actual connections (other than some specious logic) to demonstrate a pattern of growth.
Sorry, but nothing George Bush Sr. ever said in a speech can be taken as evidence of global conspiracy.
Also, there are several fundamental errors in the discussion:
1. Historical empires were not formed with the intention of global domination. They were formed to capitalize on resources, and to develop military power to protect those resources.
For example, the Persian Empire (which he doesn't mention) was the first global empire, in that it spanned into two continents. But the intent was to maximize access to crops and gold, and not to tightly control the movements of the population. This is evidenced in the rebuilding of the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem by the Persians -- the theory was that an empire containing multiple ethnic groups would only work if those people were allowed to live as they always had, but made to pay fealty (taxes) and provide service (military) to the ruling government.
Incidentally, he also mentions "Greece." This wasn't an empire. There were Athenian and Spartan Empires, but these were groups of conquered cities within the Greek penninsula (and a few colonies in Asia Minor and Africa). There was a Macedonian Empire, forged by Philip of Macedon and developed by his son Alexander ("the Great"), but here again it was more about the acquisition and control of food and gold than about the suppression of people.
2. Not everyone who makes a buck and backs a campaign is necessarily anything more than a clever profiteer. Rothschild might have had a good spy network, but that's only proof that as a speculator he was willing to put his money into good information. Yes, the net result was that England was able to further their empire, but let's not ignore the fact that England had colonies all over the world long before he was even born. So did Spain, Portugal, and Holland for that matter. It's just lucky for British imperialism that Rothschild's misdirection in the media (something the Fed does even today to control inflation) happened to turn out profitable.
3. Finally, if you're a Christian, take heart. While the prospect of global enslavement might not be encouraging, it -- and the global government idea -- is viewed in Christian Scripture as a device of the antichrist. So, it seems bad...but ultimately these guys will have to deal with God and the resurrected Christ. Even taken symbolically, it means that those who believe in peace and just living will never allow this level of oppression...certainly not for long.
How do we start? Grow vegetables; watch less TV; use a water filter instead of buying bottled water (bottled water represents a privatization of drinking water resources that could become a problem for us in the "developed" world); drive a hybrid car; turn the lights off once in a while; vote liberal; recognize when your own goverment (wherever you are in the world) pokes its nose into the business of other nations, and tell them to knock it off (this goes for every country, not just the US); fight poverty at home first; help others without thought of reward...do it because it's right.
