What do you think about parents who promise their child a pet (kitten) and then when the indoor pet gets fleas, tells the child the pet must remain outside from now on. Don't you think that the parents are being unfair to the child? Now the child is scared that the kitten will be ran over or get in a fight and die. What is your views on this?

I think that they are being unfair to the child and to the kitty. It isn't that hard to get rid of the fleas. It may cost a little and take a little time but it is worth it if you truly care for the animal

Beverly,

The real question is do YOU feel the parents are being unfair? Is it ones place to gather "evidence" for one argument or another? How did the cat get fleas in the first place if it were an inside cat?

Lots of places to go with this and not enough information. Like or dislike what they do one thing is for sure, that it's the parents' house and the parents' child. Sure fire way to upset the parents is to take a side.

And, Beverly, much as we want to protect the young ones they are going to face life's challenges. We cannot protect them from it. Much as our parents would have wanted to keep us from the unpleasant in the world we ALL have been exposed. What we can do is be there for those who are facing up to life.

Thanks for the opportunity to share.

You know Rick you are absolutely right. And I have talked with my granddaughter this week and she is doing great with having her kitten outside. It seems that the kitten intends to live on the front porch and Whitney is enjoying playing with her outside and is also enjoying not having to clean the litter box. So I guess I was just being an over protective grammy! HA HA!!

Thanks so much for replying to my post. I am glad to have a place to vent.
