Let me share a short story...
There were two men competing in a log chopping contest.
Two of the very best loggers were up against each other in a
competition to see who could chop the most logs the quickest.
Logger #1: Joe was a logger who was very strong and had a perfect
swing and was known for his incredible endurance.
Logger #2: Daniel was the second logger who was also very well
suited physically for the challenge, maybe not quite as strong as
Joe. But Daniel seemed to have a reputation to winning logging
contests (because he had a secret.)
The Contest between Joe and Daniel began as the crowd watched:
Joe seemed to strive for even, consistent swings to the wood, but
at a steady pace. Most noticeably was the fact that Joe had tremendous
endurance and did not need to even stop to rest at all during the
entire competition. He just chopped away and never needed to rest.
Daniel was quite impressive too. He labored at chopping those logs
with a very short, quick break every once in a while where he would
sit down and seemingly rest to catch his breath.
The contest finally ended with only one winner. That winner as it
turns out, was the second logger Daniel, who seemed to have the
habit of resting and taking breaks in between chopping sessions.
The first logger, Joe was completely puzzled.
Joe decided to ask Daniel just what his secret was.
Daniel smiled and replied, "Actually you probably did not notice
but at the same time I was resting, I was also sharpening my axe."
There is something to be said for taking a little break once in a
while to renew your mind and your skills. It nearly may feel like
resting may be out of the question. But that's when we usually need
it the most.
