About Me
About Me

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, I hope it can inspire you to believe that you can do something when tragedy strikes, you can fight back and be more by your own hand and mind than any employer would allow you to be. You know, I spent the better part of my life behind the wheel of a semi truck. I pulled vans flatbeds, drop decks, heavy hauls, moving vans tankers, you name it. Persistence and patience kept me safe and the people around me safe. When you got on the interstate, and a big semi moved over to let you on, it might have been me. I'm not claiming that I am the only driver who does that, just one of tens of thousands. The majority of the professional drivers that operate motor vehicles on the interstates are safe and courteous drivers. On the average, most of us put 150000 miles in behind the wheel yearly. The average for non commercial vehicles is around 12000 miles a year. Another thing that is not uncommon, is for a commercial driver to have no more than one or two moving violations in their whole career. I personally have only had two speeding tickets while behind the wheel of a semi, in over 35 years of over the road driving. I won't complain about a thing, I enjoyed being paid to see the country. I loved the freedom of being on the road. I learned to judge the head movements, shoulder inclination, and some of the other tell tales that people have when they are preparing to turn, or stop or do anything else that might put them in a position that I had to adjust my speed or manuever out of the path of. I've seen the top of Eisenhower Pass, Eagles Summit, Santiam, Sand Mountain. The grape vine in California, Cabbage hill in Oregon, The turnpikes of Jersey, The bridges of New York City. I've seen wild horses running along side the highway and accross the highway in Nevada, Northern California border and up into southern Oregon. I've driven on most back roads through many small towns in America. I've seen the historic monuments of the east, and the cave dwellings of the early southwestern Indian tribes. I've crossed mighty rivers, driven through tunnels under water and land. I,ve seen massive herds of elk migrating from the highlands to lower country as the seasons changed. Amazingly, I've been very lucky, the majority of the wildlife that I've seen has been wittnessed from far enough that I've been able to slow down before getting to the herd. In the great state of Utah, where I had the priviledge to live and work for a number of years, I encountered herds of sheep or cattle on the highway quite often. I've had people drive up along side me and pump their hand up and down wanting me to honk my airhorn thousands of times. I usually oblige them unless it is close to dark or close to homes or hospitals. When I run paralell to a set of railroad tracks for any period of time I usually exhange horn blasts with an engineer or brakeman. I allways respect the rules of the road, and most of the time, I am gentlmanly in the way that I treat others. If you let me know that you are planning to do something while you are driving near my vehicle I will often salute you for thinking wisely. Sometimes when people do things to endanger themselves or others, I might curse the motion or person under my breath. Once in a while when someone really scares me by their actions, I might even curse outloud. I want to let you know, that the majority of us are intelligent well meaning and hard working people just like you.. Many of us are very well read, and include educational as well as entertainment when it comes to reading material. George, an aquaintance of mine is a retired dentist, who got tired of looking into the mouths of people who didn't have enough oral hygene training to keep from losing most of their teeth. Some of those people were truck drivers, who not for lack of hygene but lack of time to visit the dentist, needed work as well. I laughed when he told me the reason he'd made the career change. Funny thing is, he didn't really need the money. Hey, you work hard, right 40+ hours a week. Dedicated employee all that. I did too. Over 4000000 miles behind the wheel. I didn't manage that in 40 hour weeks. Mostly more like 70 hour weeks. Sometimes working all night, sleeping the hours I was required to by the dept. of transportation, and then working straight through the next 10 or 12 hours. The law allows commercial drivers 14 hours on duty after ten off or in the sleeper. Most of us die at a younger age than the average, because of the sedintary nature of the job. Though you have to be alert, and in control of 70 feet of vehicle, weighing 80000 pounds and requiring more than a car to control. You don't move enough during a long drive to effect your heart rate most of the time. After I had a heart attack, I startedwalking at the end of each day, for at least 1 hour at a brisk pace. I lost weight, and found more energy the next day as a result. Now at 58 years old, here I am blogging for dollars. I am involved in affilliate marketing, and have decided to become a social networking idiot, and hope that somone can give me some pointers about this industry. In exchange for my interest in their opportunities take a look at some of mine. Thank you for the information.
