The meaning of the name SAMANTHA;

The name Samuel is derived from the Hebrew name שׁמוּאֵל which could mean either "name of God" or "God has heard". Samuel was the last of the ruling judges in the Old Testament. He anointed Saul to be the first king of Israel and later anointed David.

A famous bearer was the American author Samuel Clemens, who wrote under the pen name Mark Twain.

Wow what a honour to have been selected for this weeks *PARADE OF STARS*.

Well lets tell you my story…..

I was born on the 14^th January 1968 in a town called Redruth which is way down deep in the southwest of the UK in Cornwall.

I lived my first 5 yrs in a holiday town called Newquay with my mum , dad and grandparents.

Before moving to Plymouth , Devon which is the next county along from Cornwall.

While living in Newquay I spent a lot of times with my grandparents as my mum worked different jobs all depending what time of the year it was and I don’t really remember having my dad around a lot.

One day my parents and myself went to a beach to pick shells as they liked to collect shells to cover bottles (don’t ask me why lol) and I was allowed to paddle my feet , well this beach was famous for its currents and while paddling I was knock over by a wave I was only about 4 at the time but I remember even to this day what I could see , I had water going over my face and trying to shout to my parents who where walking along the beach with there back to me and then seeing my dad running into the water full clothed to rescue me and being wrapped in a blanket and taking home and sitting and having cuddles with my Nan , from that day I have never like water that much and it took me till I was 12 to learn to swim.

I moved to Plymouth when I was 5 and started to see my dad around a lot more and realised he was now living with us all the time, I learned that he was in the Royal Navy.

So I guessed over the years that’s why he wasn’t always around.

He would go away on 6-9 month trips and I really missed him, I was very very close to my dad more so then my mum.

When I was 6 my brother Clint was born and I wasn’t centre of attention anymore and my mum was all for my brother , but my dad treated us the same and sometimes I got a extra treat , which made me feel special.

I had always had toy cars and a toy garage and once Clint started growing he would take them and my mum would let him , well over the years we had many fights and I never really felt close to him , but then all brothers and sisters fight.

Since becoming adults we speak to each other and he would do anything for me , even once he went after my father in law when he hit me in the face , my father in law died 7 years ago.

5 weeks ago he became a dad for the first time and I have my first nephew ,he has brought us closer together.

When I was 14 yrs old I was looking at old photos and bits and pieces that where in a tin in the back of my parents cupboard (being nosey as always) and I came across paper work about adoption and I saw my mums name and my dads name and my name but with a different surname.

I sat there and cried believing that I was adopted , A few days later we went and to stayed with my grandparents and I asked my Nan about it.

She informed me that my mum was my real mum ,but the man I had know as my dad was my step dad , I was gutted ,but she told me the story how my real dad had been a heavy drinker and would beat my mum up , they had met on a holiday and within 3 months of meeting they had got married and I came along a few months later , my mum then left my dad and moved in with my grandparents , That’s when my mum meet my step-dad he was a family friend.

When I found this all out , I was upset but I knew that my step dad had always loved me and never treated me any different or badly.

So from that day on as far as I was concerned he was my really dad had always been and always would be.

I have never wanted to look for my real father nor has he ever came looking for me and that doesn’t worry me in anyway.

Well everything was going along nicely until Feb. 1988 when my dad found out he had a brain tumour , it was earth shattering news and it broke my heart ,he under went operations and treatment for the cancer ,but one night in April we nearly losed him I remember turning up at the hospital and seeing his sisters there ,it made me realise that he might not make it threw the night , but some miracle happened that night and he pulled threw.

Two months later I found out that I was expecting I was 20yrs old I wasn’t going out with the guy we were just good friends.

The first person I told was my dad he was over the moon that he was going to a granddad , my mum wasn’t so happy , but I was happy I had always loved kids and growing up I had always said I want four.

My dad started to become very ill again and on August 2^nd 1988 he passed way , he was the most caring man I had ever meet and I was proud to have been his daughter and it still hurts me to this day that he wasn’t there to see his first grandchild ,2 months after my dad died my granddad died .

my mum took it badly and hit the bottle ,I was suffering my self and trying to come to terms with it all , that I just stayed out with friends ,so that I wouldn’t have to come home to my mum.

In January 1989 2 weeks after my 21^st birthday I gave birth to tiffany , my mum at my side , I phoned my friend 2 days later to let him know I had a daughter and 3 days later he came to visit.

Well to cut a long story short , he stayed with me and we got married 6 months later , my mum wasn’t that keen on him as he was a sailor like my dad had been , but I thought least my daughter will have her daddy around , well 17 yrs later we are still together and went on to have Matthew 18mts later , then Leanne 10 mts after that and then two and half years later Stephen and we still love each other very much.

Last march my Nan became very ill and my mum asked me to go meet here at the nursing home , I went and my mum had to leave for a short while so I stayed with my Nan , my Nan knew I was there because she raised her hand to my face ,all this time her head was moving from side to side ,then suddenly she stopped and looked straight up I wondered what she could see and slowly I looked up wondering what I would see , but all that was there was a white ceiling .

I told my Nan that they were waiting for her and that I loved her very much and that I was letting her go , don’t ask me why I said it , but it just seemed like she was waiting for me to let her go.

Shortly after saying that to her she passed away.

I was very close to my Nan as I was the only grand-daughter and we had a special bond and to this day , I believe she wanted me to let her go so that she could go in peace and that we had said are last good bye , it has made her passing a lot easier to come to terms with plus she was 94 yrs old.

I miss her and my dad very much.

Tiffany is now studying media , Matthew is studying law and Leanne is doing a course in hairdressing ,Stephen hasn’t decided yet ,but I hope that he follows in his dad and granddads steps and joins the Royal Navy.

Well I have been a member on here since Feb. 2006 and I have made many great friends and learned many things , thank you to you all for everything.
