WRITTEN BY A 15 yr. old SCHOOL KID IN ARIZONA :

New Pledge of Allegiance !

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the ! rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen

If you aren't ashamed to do this,
please pass this on.
Jesus said,
'If you are ashamed of me,
I will be ashamed of you before my Father.'

Not ashamed? Please pass this on.

God Bless you!!

Hello Pauline,

Thank you for sharing.  I have read this poem a couple of times before, yet
it still needs to be shown more so more people read this and ponder why
our country is a mess.

We hear people crying out bias, prejudice etc..Everyone else who has a
different belief can publicly proclaim their faith in a Public Federal Place,
Deface pictures of Jesus, mock Him etc.

Yet the ones who believe The Lord God along with the Holy Bible principals
have to keep silent they cannot take action.

USA forefathers wrote the Amendments after a lot of discussion and mostly
probably a lot of debate so it would hold up forever. Along comes a minority
group who protest, march and what-have-you and manages to change the
rules to suit them, and their lifestyles so they do not have to read and
acknowledge that the bible has very clear advice that there are consequences
good or bad for every action a person takes.

These minority groups do not want to be accountable for their actions, so they
think if you take away the Holy Bible then it does not exist and everyone can do
as they like...!!

We are seeing the results but still such a huge population have no idea why
the country is in a mess and want to blame everyone else - the Schools - the
Government  etc etc.. It is like we have become a 'blame society'  It is someone
else who made me do it!!

Hi Pauline,

It can become very depressing to think of things that make us feel that the world around us is broken. Unfortunately, the separation of church and state did bring about some interesting changes.

It some high schools these days the gay and lesbian clubs meet next door to the Christian club. Sometimes they even meet together. The gay and lesbian club originated because members of the Christian Club wanted to protect members who were different. The board of Education allows students to pray to their hearts content after school, but not during that age old time in the morning when we pledge allegiance to our flag.  They are allowed to study the different religions in various elective courses. The goal of remaining objective does suggest a cold environment.

In some high schools the students themselves have found varied ways around the prayer rules. One of the things I miss in retirement is watching how creatively today's youth get around the rules. Does it really matter when the prayer is spoken?

Would organized prayer work anyway? Which prayer would we use? We are many faiths in most schools.
