Thank you for reading and the nice comments, Florence, Georgios, Jr, and
Venerina. You make life a little more meaningful to everyone here.

I didn't write this one, and I posted it on another forum, but
I thought it would be a good addition to the topic:

Attitude Determines Everything

I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before the clock strikes midnight.
I have responsibilities to fulfill today. I am important.
My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.

Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or
I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.
Today I can feel sad that I don't have more money or
I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my
purchases wisely and guide me away from waste.

Today I can grumble about my health or I can rejoice that I am alive.
Today I can lament over all that my parents didn't give me when
I was growing up or I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.
Today I can cry because roses have thorns or I can celebrate that thorns have roses.
Today I can mourn my lack of friends or I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new relationships.

Today I can whine because I have to go to work or
I can shout for joy because I have a job to do.
Today I can complain because I have to go to school or eagerly open
my mind and fill it with rich new tidbits of knowledge.
Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework or
I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter for my mind, body and soul.

Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped.
And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.

What today will be like is up to me.
I get to choose what kind of day I will have!

The little things

When I loose hope in my heart
I think of the little things to start
The wind blowing in my hair
The butterfly fluttering in the air

I am thankful I have enough to eat
and I have shoes to put on my feet.
Shelter from the rain
Pills to take for my pain.

My wife that listens to my voice
Even when I am faltering not by choice.
Friends who lend a shoulder
when the forces of darkness become colder

There is always a God to hear my prayer
While I think that life is not fair.
And he loves me without fail
Even when I falter and am not well.

So it is the little things you see
that give us the courage to go on, to be
The knowledge that I will continue
When I feel a little blue.

The coverings

I noticed the other day
When I greet new people allong my way
I see the covering they present to me
Like the outer skin of an onion that you see.

I get to know each and every one
And the skins come off one by one
They show a little more to me
Another skin another layer I see.

The Almighty sees us from within
Without the barrier of the skin
He knows us deeply in that way
Deeply with in day by day.

When we love our fellow man
A power comes from within that can
See our friends in the way
God sees us day by day.

Love breaks through the skins you see
To reveal the depths of the inner me
It doesn't care the faults or imperfection
And gives us all a new  direction.

Lost

I wonder what it is that was missing
Did I remember to give my wife hugs and kissing?
Maybe I misplaced something of mine
I didn't remember it all of the time.

Did I remember to smile as I went out the door
and give a warm greeting to my neighbor?
Have I done an act of kindness today
For a stranger I  passed by my way?

Was it an act of generosity I see
Without which where would I be?
Did I miss a chance at best
To take a much needed rest?

Have i forgotten how beautiful the sunrise
Because I was too busy my eyes
were focused on something else to do
I didn't have time for you?

It must have been something I had
because I miss it I am glad.
Whether it is right or wrong
I don't know what I have till it's gone.
