Re: Self Talk - Shad Helmstetter

Thanks for this very helpful forum. I have proved this out in my own life many times, in both negative and positive ways! So I dare all my adlandpro friends to do this: go through the entire day tomorrow being as positive, friendly, and kind to yourself as you would a dear friend. Encourage yourself, acknowledge yourself, and most of all EXCUSE yourself for little blunders in the same manner you would for someone else. You will be amazed at how your "self talk" will help you through your day, no matter how difficult it may be. I often visit residents in a nursing home. One woman will say "This place is terrible; no one ever visits me. The food is not good. I am so unhappy." Another woman, in the same place, experiencing the same things, will say "This is a wonderful place. The people are so kind to me. I have a warm bed and good food to eat. I am so blessed!" What makes the difference? I am absolutely sure it is their habit of self talk! Most of the happiness, and misery, we experience in life is caused by our habit of thinking. Paying attention to self talk and choosing to think positively can be just as important to happiness and success as achieving any other goal.

Thanks Tim, Once again the sounds of truth. Out of the abudance of the heart the mouth speaketh. You can tell how a person sees themselves by listening to what comes out of their mouths. And if you don't like what you are hearing do what you need to do change what you are saying. Eventually you will see what you are saying in yourself.

Re: Self Talk - Shad Helmstetter -- teach it to children

Self talk - is practiced by every body but in the wrong way -- Shad Helmstetter -- books on it -- especially "the self talk solution"! His rules and guidelines should be taugh in every home and every family -- plus practiced by parents and adults every where. The most important thing is not only to be aware of what you say but what you feel! Both can be brought under one process to change and create a world that you want. Again the emotion behind the taught creates a powerful combination and both should be working together and not apart. Careful evalutation of what you think and feel should be considered before you start a program to change your life and those around you. The power and enfluence of feelings and taughts for good and evil are all around us, and so often we have created our own heaven or hell here on this earth. This power of creation is with in all of our reach. Our habit of thinking and feeling start at a vary young age, and the sooner we control them for good the better off we will be. Roger L. Martin

Thanks Tim for your exceptional topic on self talk. I think negative thoughts originate from fear which is a whole new ballgame.Overcome the fear with constructive self talk and then putting it into action could be a big help. From Diana http://mapleridgemarketplace.com/
