Another 'Phishing mail' BEWARE!
3/26/2005 2:41:29 PM
Hi. Received an interesting email a few days back, could not post it straight away as Pay-Pal had to do some security work on it first. Here is the email that we received through one of our email address's, as it happens it was not one that we were registered with Pay-Pal with, so 'red flags' went up straight away. Others may not be so lucky so BE CAREFUL!!! --------------------------------------------- Dear Paypal User, In accordance with our major database relocation we are currently having major adjustments and updates of user accounts to verify that the informations you have provided with us during the sign up process are true and correct. However, we have noticed some discrepancies regarding your account at Paypal. Possible causes are inaccurate contact information and invalid logout process. We require you to complete an account verification procedure as part of our security measure. You must click the link below to complete the process. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webs-scr?cmd=_login-run Unable to do so may result to abnormal account behavior during transactions. Thank you for using PayPal! The PayPal Team -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this e-mail. Mail sent to this address cannot be answered. For assistance, log in to your PayPal account and choose the "Help" link in the footer of any page. PayPal Email ID PP096 --------------------------------------------- It looks perfectly legal & above board dosen't it? Well it's not, it is another 'phising' fraud mail trying to get hold of your Pay-Pal account details. As Pay-Pal put's it. "If any member receives any suspicious emails from us, please send them to our fraud dept straight away for verification. You can find this feature through the 'contact us' part of your members back office." More info to follow.

Anthony, I have been receiving these phishing emails for years, what I do is copy the headers, click forward and paste the headers in the message. The address to send these to is spoof@paypal.com They will be able to trace the orginal sender when the headers are sent to them. You will find that these are also coming with a bank name and information in them. If a person happens to use one of the banks that are named in a Phish letter, they should call their bank and ask to speak to the Fraud Dept. They will instruct them of what steps to take.
