‘Strong blow’ looming? Israel masses tanks & APCs on Gaza border (PHOTOS)

Israel has boosted its military presence along the border with Gaza amid top politicians’ calls for a full-scale military campaign like the conflict of 2014, to put an end to the violence and rocket attacks that it links to Hamas.

The IDF has stationed around 60 tanks and armored personnel carriers at a deployment area near the Palestinian border, according to Reuters, in what may be the largest military maneuver from Israel since 2014’s Operation Protective Edge.

In the latest exchange this week, a rocket from Gaza hit the southern Israeli city of Be’er Sheva, damaging a house, while another fell into the sea. In a series of retaliatory airstrikes Tuesday night, the IDF killed one Palestinian and injured several more, targeting eight “terrorist locations.”

Attempting to justify its rapid military escalation, Israeli officials claimed the rocket that landed in the sea came “dangerously close” to Tel Aviv. Still, Hamas took no responsibility for the rocket strike and promised an investigation.

In addition to the military response, Israel closed two border checkpoints and instituted a three-mile limit for Palestinian fishing boats. Palestinian officials have already described Gaza as being at a “breaking point,” citing “the Israeli blockade that strangled life and business in Gaza.”

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu promised “very strong action” in the event of future rocket attacks, convening his security cabinet as soon as the projectiles hit the ground. Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman prioritized showing strength over keeping the peace, reiterating his insistence on a “strong blow” against Hamas “even at a price of moving to a wide-scale confrontation.”

The Israeli media seems to be softening the population up for another war, with headlines insisting a full-scale conflict is unavoidable. An Egyptian delegation is reportedly attempting to de-escalate the situation, talking to both sides in the hope of avoiding further carnage.

The rocket arrived in Be’er Sheva as if on cue after Lieberman urged the government to allow a large-scale military campaign against Hamas in Gaza to stop “ongoing violence.” While it set off sirens, it was not intercepted by Israel’s famous Iron Dome air defense system.

While Israeli officials lament the “violence” of Hamas as the rationale for their economic blockade and proposed military incursion, most of the violence in recent months has come from Israel. The country has come under heavy international scrutiny for killing and maiming unarmed Palestinians taking part in the Great March of Return protest, including medics and journalists clearly marked as such. Over 204 Palestinians have been killed and more than 22,000 injured since the protests began in March. Israel has also stepped up its demolition of Palestinian villages to make way for the expansion of illegal settlements.

Hail storm kills 400 kangaroos and 150 goats on properties in far-west New South Wales

Updated Mon at 9:56pm

A flash storm that ripped through parts of drought ravaged Far West New South Wales has left a trail of death and destruction for two grazier families.

Up to 400 kangaroos were found dead on Avondale station near Broken Hill, with the neighbouring property left to clean up over $20,000 worth of dead stock.

Tegan Langford said what began as joy and elation over the much-needed rain, later turned into utter disbelief.

"It was very eerie down there. It looked like something out of a movie where they say the world is going to end. Everything was just dead."

Tegan and her husband David own Ktank Station, 30 kilometres east of Broken Hill.

The Langfords, like many grazing families in the Far West, were desperately waiting for the rain that lashed the region a week ago.

They did not know, however, that with the rain came a hail storm that killed more than 400 kangaroos and 150 goats.

"We received 18mm of rain at the house, which we were over the moon about, but it wasn't until a couple of days later that we realised how bad the damage was,'' she said.

"We were out mustering a paddock that was next door to our goat paddock when we started to see dead roos and goats for no reason."

Ms Langford said the hardest part was facing the financial loss after enduring the hardship of a dry winter. Each fully grown Boer goat is worth up to $150 and could weigh in at 36 kilograms.

"We've worked so hard and put so much money into feed and it all gets taken away with in a 15-minute storm. We thought there might have been some goats that hadn't died, but we couldn't find any."

"In the end, I was just grateful none of us had been caught in it and that it hadn't come over the house," she said.

The Langfords' neighbours, Sue and Kym Andrews from Avondale station, said they had never witnessed a storm that caused such destruction.

"I've been here for 37 years and we haven't had anything like that. To have the hail still underneath the bushes 14 or 16 hours later … it's incredible, really," Ms Andrews said.

Greg Curran has been a veterinarian for more than 30 years and has worked closely with wildlife in isolated parts of western New South Wales and Queensland.

He said he had never seen anything like this before.

"I've done a lot of work with kangaroos and kangaroo deaths since the late 1990s, and I've never heard of large numbers of kangaroos and goats being killed in this number before," Mr Curran said.

"In a storm, the animals can get quite disoriented about where they are and what is going on; it would have been quite chaotic for them at the time of the hail storm," he said.

If you find animals in need of assistance, you can contact your local RSPCA.

China’s SUPERCOLLIDER could ‘RIP the fabric’ of the UNIVERSE - shock claim

CHINA’S super particle collider could RIP the fabric of the universe, according to a shock claim as an astrophysicist warns there is a chance colliders could cause a ‘catastrophe that engulfs space itself’.

The east Asian nation is building a particle accelerator which will be seven times as powerful as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Switzerland.

With a circumference of 34 miles, it will also be twice as long as the LHC.

When CERN began work on the LHC, many feared it could end the universe or create black holes on Earth.

Now with China’s plans to build a more powerful particle accelerator, the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC), the fears have inevitably rose again.

Space website the Daily Galaxy paraphrased astrophysicist Martin Rees and wrote “there’s a chance the colliders could cause a ‘catastrophe that engulfs space itself’.”

Mr Rees warned “innovation is often hazardous,” but that “physicists should be circumspect about carrying out experiments that generate conditions with no precedent, even in the cosmos.”

Wang Yifang, director of the Institute of High Emergency Physics at the academy, confirmed the CEPC’s power.

He said: “LHC is hitting its limits of energy level.

“It seems not possible to escalate the energy dramatically ay the existing facility.

“The technical route we chose is different from the LHC.

“While the LHC smashes together protons, it generates Higgs particles together with many other particles.”

Mr Yifang told China Daily the CEPC, which is set to be built near the start of the Great Wall, creates a “clean environment that only produces Higgs boson particles.

“This is a machine for the world and by the world: not a Chinese one”.

Work on the CEPC is set to start before 2021, with the hopes of having it up and running by 2055.

The Daily Galaxy wrote: “China’s Massive Particle Accelerator could create a phase transition that rips the very fabric of spacetime”.

Trump: US to begin cutting aid to Central American nations for failing to stop migrant ‘caravan’

As a thousands-strong ‘caravan’ of migrants makes its way towards the US’ southern border, President Trump took to Twitter to threaten to cut off foreign aid to Central American governments and deploy the military to the border.

“Sadly, it looks like Mexico’s Police and Military are unable to stop the Caravan heading to the Southern Border of the United States,” Trump tweeted on Monday. “Criminals and unknown Middle Easterners are mixed in. I have alerted Border Patrol and Military that this is a National Emergency. Must change laws!”

Originating in Honduras two weeks ago, the ‘caravan’ has since swelled in numbers, and thousands of migrants are now marching through Mexico in a mile-long, ten-abreast convoy. Believing their odds to be greater in numbers, the migrants have already passed through Guatemala and have another 1,600 miles to go through Mexico until they reach the US’ southern border.

Trump had warned Mexico’s government last week “in the strongest of terms,” to halt the caravan’s advance, and threatened to rip up a recently signed trade agreement with Mexico if Enrique Peña Nieto’s government doesn’t act to stop illegal immigration. While Mexican authorities had halted the caravan at the border with Guatemala, many crossed illegally, and more broke through the border fence and continued their journey.

Attempts on Sunday, by mostly unarmed Federal Police, to block the caravan outside the town of Tapachula failed, as officers withdrew due to the size of the crowd.

Trump’s “unknown Middle Easterners” likely refers to Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales’ claim last week that his country hasapprehended and deported “close to 100 people” linked to the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) terrorist group, and more than 1,000 MS-13 gang members, as the caravan crossed Guatemala.

President Trump again repeated his warning from last week that he would deploy the military to secure the border if Mexico fails to stop the caravan’s advance. Trump previously deployed the National Guard to the border in April, as a smaller caravan headed to the US, but said over the weekend that he would deploy “the military, not the guard.”

Two weeks out from the crucial midterm elections, Trump also hit out at Democrats for failing to vote in favor of two Republican sponsored immigration bills earlier this year. “Every time you see a Caravan, or people illegally coming, or attempting to come, into our Country illegally, think of and blame the Democrats for not giving us the votes to change our pathetic Immigration Laws!” he tweeted.

With the migrants now well into Mexico, Trump blasted the governments of Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala for allowing the caravan to get this far in the first place. Repeating a familiar threat, Trump said the US will “now begin cutting off, or substantially reducing” foreign aid to these countries.

More than 300,000 lightning strikes hit New South Wales last night after severe thunderstorms roared through the state.

Sydney had upwards of 7000 lightning strikes while a deluge of rain saw the gauge at Sydney Airport record 19.2mm in 15 minutes.

SES NSW received 200 calls for help, with the strong storm bringing down trees and causing localised flooding.

Two people were rescued from floodwaters, the organisation said on Facebook.

A Rockdale resident miraculously filmed the moment a lightning strike hit his home, shattering a wall and sending bricks flying.

"I was playing with my new iPhone XS so I guess you could say I was in the right place as the right time," David Parks told 9news.com.au.

"No-one was hurt. The damage is pretty bad but nothing structurally unsafe.

"My cat was cowering behind a chest of drawers and it took a while to find him."

Organisers were forced to delay the start of the Invictus Games opening ceremony by more than an hour last night.

The latest storm cemented rainfall figures for some parts of Australia, says Weatherzone.

And more rain is on the way for Australia's east coast.

That's well above the 2.8mm they recorded during September and makes this their wettest month since early 2017.

Some early-season storms in northwest Queensland brought 59mm of rain to Burketown this week.

That's more than four times the October monthly and makes this the area's wettest October since the 1970's.

In NSW, Lismore's running monthly total of 225mm as of 9am on Friday makes this its wettest October in seven years. This is well above their long-term October average of 73mm.

Sydney received 21mm of rain between 6pm and this morning.

Across the state, Narrabri in the North West slopes topped the state with 32mm falling in the past 24 hours, Taree recorded almost 30mm.

Canterbury had 16mm, Bega receieved 25mm while Mudgee recorded 15mm, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

In Coonamble, 23mm of rainfall was recorded within a 21-minute period after 2pm - more than half the monthly average.

A 76-year-old man from the Sydney's south-west says the house shook when a tree fell into his home.

"I'm very lucky it fell the right way to a degree," Ray Markey told 9News.

"If it had have fell the other way it would've taken out the whole house."

Parts of Victoria also got their share of thunder and rain, with the town of Omeo receiving more than 5000 lightning strikes.

According to Weatherzone, over southeastern Australia, an estimate of over 300,000 lightning strikes were recorded to 8pm (AEDT).
