‘Strong blow’ looming? Israel masses tanks & APCs on Gaza border (PHOTOS)

Israel has boosted its military presence along the border with Gaza amid top politicians’ calls for a full-scale military campaign like the conflict of 2014, to put an end to the violence and rocket attacks that it links to Hamas.

The IDF has stationed around 60 tanks and armored personnel carriers at a deployment area near the Palestinian border, according to Reuters, in what may be the largest military maneuver from Israel since 2014’s Operation Protective Edge.

In the latest exchange this week, a rocket from Gaza hit the southern Israeli city of Be’er Sheva, damaging a house, while another fell into the sea. In a series of retaliatory airstrikes Tuesday night, the IDF killed one Palestinian and injured several more, targeting eight “terrorist locations.”

Attempting to justify its rapid military escalation, Israeli officials claimed the rocket that landed in the sea came “dangerously close” to Tel Aviv. Still, Hamas took no responsibility for the rocket strike and promised an investigation.

In addition to the military response, Israel closed two border checkpoints and instituted a three-mile limit for Palestinian fishing boats. Palestinian officials have already described Gaza as being at a “breaking point,” citing “the Israeli blockade that strangled life and business in Gaza.”

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu promised “very strong action” in the event of future rocket attacks, convening his security cabinet as soon as the projectiles hit the ground. Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman prioritized showing strength over keeping the peace, reiterating his insistence on a “strong blow” against Hamas “even at a price of moving to a wide-scale confrontation.”

The Israeli media seems to be softening the population up for another war, with headlines insisting a full-scale conflict is unavoidable. An Egyptian delegation is reportedly attempting to de-escalate the situation, talking to both sides in the hope of avoiding further carnage.

The rocket arrived in Be’er Sheva as if on cue after Lieberman urged the government to allow a large-scale military campaign against Hamas in Gaza to stop “ongoing violence.” While it set off sirens, it was not intercepted by Israel’s famous Iron Dome air defense system.

While Israeli officials lament the “violence” of Hamas as the rationale for their economic blockade and proposed military incursion, most of the violence in recent months has come from Israel. The country has come under heavy international scrutiny for killing and maiming unarmed Palestinians taking part in the Great March of Return protest, including medics and journalists clearly marked as such. Over 204 Palestinians have been killed and more than 22,000 injured since the protests began in March. Israel has also stepped up its demolition of Palestinian villages to make way for the expansion of illegal settlements.

US aircraft carrier enters Arctic Circle for the first time in nearly three decades, Russia considers military buildup dangerous

A US aircraft carrier strike group has entered the Arctic to join a massive NATO naval drill close to Russian border for the first time since the end of the Cold War.

Nuclear-powered carrier USS 'Harry S. Truman' will operate in the Norwegian Sea to display "the flexibility and toughness"of US forces, the Navy stated on Friday. A ship of its type hasn't conducted voyages into Arctic waters since 1991, and hasn't shown up near Norwegian shores since 1987.

The carrier group will perform a wide array of training exercises, including takeoffs and landings in severe northern weather conditions, the carrier's commanding officer, Captain Nick Dienna, explained.

"It has been over three decades since carrier aviation has been tested by this environment."

Dienna said that the ship's presence in the region showcases "a full spectrum of capabilities to bear anywhere in the world."

USS 'Harry S. Truman' is also set to join the massive NATO drill, Trident Juncture 2018, which is scheduled to take place from October 25 to November 7. The upcoming exercise will be the largest of its kind since the end of the Cold War, involving more than 50,000 troops, 65 ships and around 250 aircraft. The drill will span from Iceland and waters off eastern Norway to Swedish and Finnish airspace.

The drill takes place amid increased militarization in the Arctic. The Pentagon had deployed extra troops in Alaska and stepped up exercises there. Washington is also planning to double the number of marines stationed in Norway. Russia, meanwhile, has been strengthening its bases and outposts around the nation's northern coast.

Despite amassing a large amount of naval power in close proximity to the northern Russian borders, NATO officials insist that the maneuvers are purely defensive in nature and are not a threat to the military bloc's immediate neighbors.

"We're never looking for a fight, but we are committed to defense and deter," the drill's commander, US Admiral James Foggo, toldreporters back in June.

Foggo, who also leads NATO's Allied Force Command Naples, said that the nations will simulate defending Norway from a hostile attack, but refused to go into the details of the wargame's scenario.

Russia considers military buildup on its doorstep dangerous, not only to Moscow but to the whole region. Earlier this month, its Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that "irresponsible"activities like Trident Juncture can "destabilize" the situation in the Arctic.

"The Arctic and the north of Europe must remain a low-tension zone," she said at a press event, adding that saber-rattling in the region may have "long-lasting ramifications."

Mexico plans to grant 100 humanitarian visas daily to caravan of migrants massed at southern border

Honduran migrants
Mexican immigration authorities will begin granting humanitarian visas to a caravan of 3,000 migrants massed at the country's southern border, but only in small groups each day, according to Mexico's ambassador to Guatemala.

Ambassador Luis Manuel Lopez Moreno said Friday that border officials will allow 100 migrants per day to cross into Mexico, where their asylum petitions will be reviewed. Migrants whose cases are approved will be given asylum visas, which allow them to continue their journey to any point northward, including the U.S.-Mexico border.

The highly publicized caravan of mostly Honduran migrants began arriving at Mexico's border with Guatemala on Thursday, about a week after it set out from the northern Honduran city of San Pedro Sula. Initially numbering fewer than 200 people, the caravan quickly swelled to more than 3,000 as it trekked through Honduras and into Guatemala.

The caravan is the second large group of migrants to attempt to reach the U.S. border through Mexico this year, following a similar procession in April. In response to the earlier group, U.S. President Donald Trump accused Mexico of enabling illegal immigration and ordered thousands of national guard troops to the border in support of law enforcement agents, a deployment that continues today.

Trump has reacted in similar fashion to the newest caravan, threatening foreign aid cuts to Central American governments for failing to stop the outflow of migrants. On Thursday, Trump called on Mexico to stop the "onslaught" of migrants and threatened to use the military to "close the border" if the caravan is allowed to continue its journey north.

As the caravan neared Mexico's southern border, the Mexican government sent planeloads of federal police to the area and warned any caravan migrants entering the country "in an irregular manner" would be arrested and deported. But authorities also said migrants who wanted to pursue asylum claims would be given a chance to do so.

"These people are in great need. The border is not closed, we are open to receive them with order and according to the law," Lopez Moreno said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

Under the process outlined by the Mexican foreign ministry, immigration officers will interview asylum in groups of five. While the cases are evaluated - a process that typically takes up to 45 days - the migrants must wait in the area and check in at migration centers every week. Once approved for an asylum visa, the migrants can go anywhere in Mexico they choose.

Meanwhile, Mexican authorities have asked the United Nations refugee agency for assistance in setting up a migrant processing center near the Mexico-Guatemala border.

The plan was announced as U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in Mexico City for a meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto. The migrant caravan is on the top of the meeting agenda, Department of State officials say.

Mexico opens border to women & children, thousands-strong of US-bound migrant caravan

Migrants
Mexico has opened its border to women and children from the thousands-strong migrant caravan that has been attempting to cross from Guatemala and eventually into the US, AFP reports.

The migrants, who are mostly from Honduras, are ultimately trying to reach the United States, despite President Donald Trump's threat that the military would be called to the US-Mexican border if the "onslaught" is not stopped.

Organizers say that some 4,000 migrants are part of the caravan that arrived at Mexico's border on Friday. Photos showed the bridge between the two countries packed full of people, with many resorting to jumping in the river below after being blocked by Mexican riot police.
The reported green light for women and children comes after many migrants were sent back on Saturday, with Guatemalan police transporting at least 62 people in two buses.

Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez is due to meet his Guatemalan counterpart Jimmy Morales in Guatemala City on Saturday for talks on a strategy to return the Honduran migrants.

Who's financing the "spontaneous" migrant caravan trekking towards the United States? Here are some clues

border trash
On his nationally syndicated talk show Wednesday, Rush Limbaugh discussed the growing migrant "caravan" currently making its way towards the United States.

In particular, Limbaugh talked about what it would take for hundreds and thousands of people to make such a long journey on foot, and through a number of countries after the caravan originated in Honduras.

Where would the migrants sleep? How would they eat? Where would their water come from?

He also discussed issues like personal hygiene; where would they shower or bathe? Where would they go to the bathroom?

And if you look at pictures of the migrants you'll see, many are carrying very small backpacks, so they can't have much food with them, let alone toiletry items, tents/shelter, and extra clothing - all of the things you'd normally associate with someone trekking cross-country and hundreds of miles. Some don't have a backpack at all.

That led Limbaugh to logically conclude someone - or some organization(s) - must be helping the migrants, to include the governments of Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico, all countries they have passed through or will be passing through.

Almost on cue, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., dropped a bombshell Wednesday, the same day Limbaugh was speculating about who was providing the migrant caravan's basic needs. He tweeted out a video that showed men handing out what appears to be money to women and children in the caravan:

“BREAKING: Footage in Honduras giving cash 2 women & children 2 join the caravan & storm the US border @ election time. Soros? US-backed NGOs? Time to investigate the source!” he wrote.

NGOs - non-governmental organizations - are almost all led by Left-wing individuals and groups. And George Soros is long known for his Marxist-socialist meddling in the U.S. electoral or governing processes. If, in fact, he - directly or indirectly - is funneling money to this caravan, then he most definitely needs to be (finally) held to account, perhaps by freezing his U.S. assets and using them to pay the costs incurred by the United States for dealing with all of these people once they arrive on our doorstep (and they will).

This wasn't just spontaneous

There has been some pushback on the original story - Gaetz himself corrected the record and said the people in the video are actually in Guatemala (he said he believed it was Honduras because he was sent the video by a Honduran government official). Some say that what we see in the video is not unusual, as it's merely part of an annual "caravan" event meant to draw attention to the violence in their home countries.

But there is clearly more behind this latest caravan than just 'tradition.' For one thing, it was put together at a time - right before the midterm elections in the U.S. - when the American Democratic Left is desperate to make POTUS Trump and Republicans look bad. (Related: Feds cutting border security as migrant surge from Central, South America worsens.)

The establishment media no doubt has already taped interviews with many migrants including weeping mothers clinging to crying, dejected-looking children, all of whom are complaining that the evil Donald Trump and Republicans won't let them into the land of opportunity (because they're all racists).

In fact, they're already starting to publish them.

But how likely is this stunt to change the outcome of the midterm elections? It may (or may not) inspire Leftists to show up and vote for Democrats, but it's certainly going to energize more Republican, Trump-supporting voters, and there is already statistical data to back up that claim.

As The National Sentinel reports, immigration or, more specifically illegal immigration, is the No. 1 issue among GOP voters, with 25 percent saying so. That's followed by "'Economy and Jobs' (23 percent), then healthcare (17 percent), 'gun policy' (17 percent), and 'tax cuts and reform' (7 percent)."

In the meantime, it's incumbent upon Congress and the administration to find out who's funding this migrant invasion of our country.
