Aldine ISD teacher accused of sexual relationship with 13-year-old released from jail

Report says teacher became pregnant with student's baby

An Aldine Independent School District peace officer was assigned to investigate an improper relationship between Vera and a student at Stovall Middle School, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Vera, an English teacher, admitted to conducting a sexual relationship with the student since last September, authorities said. A report said the student was in her eighth-grade English class. The DA's office said the officer received school records showing the student to be younger than 14 when Vera began the sexual relationship.

Vera told the officer that she first met the student during a summer school session. The DA's office said the student tried to communicate with the teacher on Instagram. She later sent a message to the student after he didn't show up for class, which led to the student asking for her phone number, prosecutors said.

Vera said the student asked if the two of them could hang out and she agreed, according to court documents. She told an officer that she drove to the student's house to pick up the boy, and they drove around and kissed in the car, court documents say.

Vera said she drove to the student's house again the next day because the student's parents were not home, the report says. According to the report, Vera said that was the first time when she and the boy had sex. Officials believe that was in September.

Vera said the student's parents not only knew about the relationship, they approved of it and allowed the teen to spend the night at Vera's home in Spring, where they engaged in sex on a regular basis, according to court documents. She told an investigator that she would drop him off at home in the morning so he could catch the bus to Stovall Middle School, prosecutors said.

Vera told an officer that the school had an open house in October, when she met the student's parents. After the open house, Vera went to the student's home and was introduced as his girlfriend to his parents. According to the report, Vera said the parents were accepting of their relationship and she was invited to family gatherings.

Parents to whom we spoke were in disbelief.

"(It's) horrible for any father or any family member going through this situation," Gerson Bonilla said. "When you send your kid to the school you think everything will be safe for them and everything. But I think this is something that is serious that needs to be investigated."

Vera told investigators that the relationship with the student grew, and they continued to have sex and spend time together. According to court reports, Vera said she got pregnant with the student's baby in January. She told the officer that the student's family was told about the pregnancy and that they were supportive and excited about the baby, prosecutors said.

Court documents said Vera had an abortion because she got nervous when Child Protective Services showed up at school in February to question her and the student about their relationship. The DA's office said Vera denied the relationship then.

An officer did a forensic examination of Vera's phone. According to the report, many messages between the teacher and the student were consistent with what she had said.

She faces a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child.

WUHAN, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Torrential rain battered central China's Hubei Province on Wednesday, trapping people and inundating cities, the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters said.

As of Wednesday evening, more than 100 trapped people had been rescued and more than 1,000 evacuated to safer places, officials with the headquarters said.

Red alerts for rain were issued on Wednesday in several cities across the province including the capital Wuhan.

Many parts of the city were flooded and precipitation in downtown Wuhan reached 115 millimeters. Public transportation had also been disrupted, the city government said.

On Wednesday afternoon, 79 people trapped in Jiangjiamiao village in Yichang City, including 39 students, were rescued. More than 40 people who had been trapped in the middle of a road in Wuhan were also rescued.

More than 40,000 mu (2,667 hectares) of farmland were flooded. Eighty-two houses collapsed. The flood caused direct economic losses of 23.4 million yuan (3.55 million U.S. dollars) in the province.

In Hangzhou City in east China, continuous rainstorms had caused the cancellation of more than 100 flights, and more than 6,000 people were trapped at the airport as of 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

France sees worst flooding since records began

31/05 18:23 CET

| updated at 01/06 - 07:28

Scenes in parts of France looked like something straight out of a Jules Verne novel, with cars and houses under water after a deluge of rain.

Parts of Central and Northern France have been drenched by the downpour with water levels rising to over one and a half metres in some areas, in what is reported as the most rainfall for this time of year since records began.

A total of seven departments across the country had issued severe weather warnings, with the Loiret, one of the worst affected areas, being placed under red alert, an extremely rare event.

Firefighters and rescue services were only able to make patrols by boat, looking out for those stranded by the muddy water.

In other parts of the country, traffic was disrupted, coming to a complete standstill in some areas and large stretches of motorway have been closed in others.

⚠️💧☔️ Due to , some parts of the Seine banks are closed.

The capital, Paris, saw the River Seine rise by almost three and a half metres – its highest since 2001 – forcing the closure of some of its banks in the eastern part of the city.

In Bruay-la-Buisserie, over 70 mm of rain was registered, with only a makeshift dam to protect the homes of the town’s 23,000 residents.

Did the Mainstream Media Just Ignore the Start of World War III?

MICHAEL SNYDER

There are international news reports that claim Turkish military forces have entered Syrian territory and have established positions near the towns of Azaz and Afrin. If these international news reports are true, then Turkey has essentially declared war on the Assad regime.

In February, I warned that escalating tensions in the region could be the spark that sets off World War III, but things seemed to cool down a bit in March and April. However, this latest move by Turkey threatens to take the war in Syria to a whole new level, and everyone will be watching to see how the Russians and the Iranians respond to this ground incursion.

So far, it is the Russian media that's taking the lead in reporting about this movement of Syrian forces. For example, the Sputnik news agency was one of the first to report Turkish military activity around the town of Azaz:

Amid violent clashes between militants of Daesh and troops of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the town of Azaz in northern Aleppo district, reports are surfacing suggesting that the Turkish Army units have been seen located in the district of Azaz.

In addition, Sputnik claims that Turkish military forces entered a small village called Hamam near the town of Afrin on Saturday.

"Two days ago, the Turkish military entered the village of Hamam in Afrin area. We are ready to repel any attack. Meanwhile, FSA units are suffering serious defeat in clashes with Daesh. They have already lost control of 12 villages. If Daesh comes to Azaz, 'Democratic Syrian Forces' will repel the jihadists, and not allow them to enter the city," Arac stressed.

In particular, the Azaz corridor is considered to be extremely important because that is the primary route that Turkey has been using to resupply jihadi rebels in Aleppo. So Turkey wants to keep that road open at all costs.

Meanwhile, an Iranian news source is also reporting on this Turkish incursion into Syria:

Member of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PDS) Ahmet Arac said that the hundreds of the Turkish soldiers crossed the Syrian border at Bab al-Salameh border-crossing and deployed their forces in al-Shahba'a region near Marea and Azaz.

"The Turkish Armed Forces are preparing an offensive in the Azaz and Marea regions that have been the scenes of tough battles between the ISIL terrorists and its rival group of the Free Syrian Army," Arac added.

"Also yesterday the Turkish Army carried out rocket attacks on the positions of Democratic Forces of Syria," he went on to say.

So far, there has been no confirmation of this invasion from the mainstream media in the Western world. But of course since Turkey is our ally, the Obama administration would not want the media talking about this. So instead, our big media outlets are giving us headlines such as "Judge sentences Catholic to attend Baptist church."

If you have been following my work for a while, you already know that Turkey and Saudi Arabia have been working very hard to overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad for years, and Assad knows exactly what Turkey has been up to.

"Turkey, as well as Saudi Arabia, have crossed all possible red lines, possibly from the first weeks of the Syrian war. Today, the war against Erdogan and against Saudi Arabia is a war against terrorists. The Turkish army, which is not even Turkish, is Erdogan's army that is fighting today in Syria. Everything that Ankara and Riyadh have done from the very beginning can be considered aggression. Aggression in a political sense or in a military sense –providing terrorists with arms – or direct aggression with the use of artillery, and other military violations. Erdogan is directly supporting the terrorists as he allows them to move into Turkish territory, to carry out maneuvers with tanks. This concerns not only individuals, he finances them [terrorists] through Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and through Turkey itself, of course.Turkey trades oil that has been stolen by IS (Islamic State, Daesh), at the same time carrying out artillery attacks against the Syrian army – when it moves close – in order to help the terrorists. They are terrorists and when we attack these terrorists in Syria, this leads to Erdogan's direct defeat."

Assad is a very bad man, but everything that he said about Turkey in that quote is true. Turkey has been giving direct assistance to ISIS, and Barack Obama has known about it the entire time.

Most Americans simply do not understand how insane Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan truly is. Our "ally" has essentially become a dictator, and he is obsessed with recreating the old Ottoman empire. These days, political rallies in support of Erdogan are quite reminiscent of what Nazi rallies under Adolf Hitler were like, and there is a nationalistic fervor in Turkey right now that is so intense that it is hard to describe it to someone in the western world. It is fueled by the rise of radical Islam, but what is going on in Turkey is broader than that. It is extremely dangerous, and yet nobody in the U.S. criticizes Erdogan because he is our "friend."

In addition to moving troops into Syria, Turkey already has forces positioned in Iraq, and the Russians are quite upset about this. Just consider what Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday.

"This (keeping troops in Iraq) is an absolutely unacceptable position," it cited Lavrov as saying. "In principle, I believe that what the Turks are doing deserves far greater public attention on the part of our Western partners."

But for Erdogan, what we have seen so far is just the beginning. He dreams of creating an Islamic empire, and he envisions himself at the top of the food chain.

This is one reason why he is so virulently against birth control for Islamic women in his country. He wants the population of Turkey to multiply greatly so that the Turks can fulfill their appointed destiny.

In a speech broadcast live on TV, he said "no Muslim family" should consider birth control or family planning.

"We will multiply our descendants," said Mr Erdogan, who became president in August 2014 after serving as prime minister for 12 years.

In fact, Erdogan actually considers it to be "treason" for Islamic women in Turkey to use contraception.

Mr Erdogan himself is a father of four. He has previously spoken out against contraception, describing it as "treason" when speaking at a wedding ceremony in 2014.

He has also urged women to have at least three children, and has said women cannot be treated as equal to men.

Are you starting to see how dangerous this man is?

Our "ally" is an egomaniac dictator who dreams of recreating the Ottoman empire, and he now has troops positioned in both Iraq and Turkey.

And if he isn't careful, Erdogan may end up starting a major war which would ultimately involve the United States.

Hopefully cooler heads will prevail before events start spinning entirely out of control.

Russia and Saudi Arabia dump $50bn in US assets

United States Department of the Treasury Washington, D.C. © Wikipedia

Investors from Russia and Saudi Arabia have cut their combined holdings of US securities by more than $50 billion between mid 2014 and 2015, reports the Financial Times.

Over the period, Saudi Arabia reduced its holdings by $26 billion, according to an annual US Treasury survey published earlier this week. The Treasury recently unveiled the scale of Saudi buying of US government debt that had dropped by $3 billion to about $116 billion from February to March.

Russian investment in US holdings has more than halved since the 2008 financial crisis to roughly $73 billion by the end of last June.

After crude prices plunged in January to $28 per barrel from $110 in June 2014, the governments of both countries had to search for alternative funding sources to balance their budgets. Although prices have stabilized close to $50 per barrel, Moscow and Riyadh are still facing deficits.

Russia sold $1.75 billion worth of debt last month. Saudi Arabia has announced its own bond sale to raise $15 billion in capital.

Foreign purchases of US securities hit a record $17.1 trillion in June 2015, up four percent from a year earlier. This is largely due to increased holdings by Luxembourg, the UK, Ireland and the Cayman Islands, according to the US Treasury.

The survey conducted among brokers and financial institutions revealed a $159 billion upsurge in holdings of American assets by UK portfolios. The Treasury also reports an increase in US asset purchases by India, Turkey, Brazil and Mexico.
