DAVOS, Switzerland (AP) — Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, on Friday warned the West against trying to topple President Vladimir Putin and said that Russians are ready to sacrifice their wealth in Putin's support.

"When a Russian feels any foreign pressure, he will never give up his leader," Shuvalov said. "Never. We will survive any hardship in the country — eat less food, use less electricity."

So if I'm reading this correctly Mr. Shuvalov is volunteering to give up some of his wealth so that the people who have no food and electricity will survive the hardship?
Just asking.

UN accuses Israel of razing homes of 77 Palestinians

Jerusalem (AFP) - The United Nations has accused Israel of illegally demolishing the homes of 77 Palestinians, mostly children, this week in annexed east Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank.

"In the past three days, 77 Palestinians, over half of them children, have been made homeless," the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a statement issued Friday evening.

"Some of the demolished structures were provided by the international community to support vulnerable families.

"Demolitions that result in forced evictions and displacement run counter to Israel's obligations under international law and create unnecessary suffering and tension. They must stop immediately," said OCHA.

The demolitions took place in east Jerusalem and the districts of Ramallah, Jericho and Hebron, it added.

OCHA said that during 2014 Israel carried out a record number of demolitions in east Jerusalem and a zone of the West Bank under full Israeli control known as Area C.

"In 2014, according to OCHA figures, the Israeli authorities destroyed 590 Palestinian-owned structures in Area C and east Jerusalem, displacing 1,177 people -- the highest level of displacement in the West Bank since OCHA began systematically monitoring the issue in 2008."

It did not specify how many of the structures were homes or animal shelters or other outbuildings.

Israel says such demolitions are carried out because the structures have been built without the required construction permits. Palestinians and rights groups say such authorisation is routinely denied, forcing unlicensed building.

"The planning policies applied by Israel in Area C and east Jerusalem discriminate against Palestinians, making it extremely difficult for them to obtain building permits," said OCHA.

"As a result, many Palestinians build without permits to meet their housing needs and risk having their structures demolished.

"Palestinians must have the opportunity to participate in a fair and equitable planning system that ensures their needs are met," it said.

I am afraid he must be talking about "ordinary Russians"... as you know, he is one of the rich and powerful.

Man Who Predicted Collapse Of Euro Against Swiss Franc Makes Second Terrifying Prediction

January 22, 2015

Today the man who 52 days ago remarkably predicted the collapse of the euro against the Swiss franc just issued a second terrifying prediction. This King World News interview takes a trip down the rabbit hole of desperate central banks, massive losses and total global collapse.

Eric King: “Egon, the ECB has just announced this 1.1 trillion euro package in a desperate attempt to fight off deflation.”

Greyerz: “These decisions by the central banks have virtually no impact whatsoever on the underlying economy over the longer-term. They did what they had to do because the European banking system as well as the economy is in dire straits.

Central banks still believe that by printing money they can kick-start their economies and save the financial system. That’s not the case. There is no chance whatsoever to change the outcome of an indebted and bankrupt European economy….

Even though this will have a short-term effect on markets, people need to understand that this just creates even more debt that will never be repaid. But the ECB is now pushing on a string because, sadly, printing money is the only thing they know how to do.

As it becomes clear that this new money printing program is also a failure, the ECB will then accelerate the money printing. This will have the effect of rapidly debasing the purchasing power of the euro and it will also lead to even more chaos in Europe. It is of paramount importance that investors protect themselves against this coming wealth destruction.”

Disastrous Prediction Unfolds

Eric King: “Egon, with remarkable precision you predicted what turned out to be a 58-sigma market-shocking move by the Swiss National Bank. The former White House official, Dr. Philippa Malmgren, told King World News that faith in central banks has now been shattered after massive losses were incurred as a result of the Swiss National Bank going back on its guarantee to keep the peg in place.”

Greyerz: “We don’t yet know what the total losses amount to in the aftermath of the Swiss National Bank’s historic decision but we know they are enormous. The Swiss franc skyrocketed in seconds and the losses around the world are staggering and have already been sufficient to bring down foreign exchange houses and hedge funds. But the losses are impacting the bigger banks and the central banks as well.

Swiss National Bank Still Has To Unwind Massive Losing Postions

As an example, the Swiss National Bank has a position of roughly 500 billion Swiss francs, mainly in euros and dollars. The losses on those currency positions were around 30 percent on the first day. So the Swiss National Bank is now sitting on an unrealized loss of about 80 billion Swiss francs.

In the coming months and years the SNB will have to reduce the size of its balance sheet. So they will need to sell their euros and buy Swiss francs. This is going to have the effect of further strengthening the Swiss franc, which will put even more pressure on the Swiss economy. So it’s a vicious circle for them.

Total Global Collapse

This is what all central banks have done — they’ve trapped themselves in a corner. They have zero or negative interest rates, they are printing more money, and they are buying more assets that they can’t sell and that are worth a lot less than they are paying for them. So every single central bank in the world is bankrupt because they will never, ever get the price for their assets that they paid for them. This is why the financial system will not survive, Eric, and a total global collapse is now in front of us.” ***ALSO JUST RELEASED: Paul Craig Roberts – The Whole World Is Staring Down The Barrel Of A Gun As Collapse Looms CLICK HERE.

A small Australian town hit with ridiculously hot temperatures

A town in the Western Australian outback, Marble Bar, has seen temperatures soar to almost record-breaking heat.

The town, with a population in the low hundreds, was forecast to swelter through a whopping 49 degrees Celsius (120.2 degrees Fahrenheit), according to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM). By 1:30 p.m., Marble Bar had reached a high of 48.4 degrees Celsius. At 2:30 p.m. local time, the mercury dropped a measly 0.1 degrees to 48.3 degrees Celsius, while by 4 p.m. it had only slid to 48.2 degrees Celsius.

The record temperature at Marble Bar, in the inland Pilbara district, was in 1922, when the mercury hit 49.2°C, according to the BOM. It also holds the world record for the most consecutive days above 37.8 degrees Celsius — from Oct. 31, 1923 to April 7, 1924. That is a total of 160 sizzling days.

The hot weather isn't new to the town folk out here. The manager of Marble Bar's Iron Clad Hotel, Thomas Fox, told Fairfax Media this is just a normal day and he wouldn't be expecting his customer base to surge, but rather just to be the same old regulars.

"We expect the same amount of people, I can pretty much give you all the names of the people that'll be here this afternoon," he said. "It's Marble Bar, it's hot all the time, 44-45 degrees is run-of-the-mill."

While the rest of the world freaks out about those kind of numbers, the residents of Marble Bar know better. There is a 30% chance that rain will come tonight, but even if it does, it will no doubt be another scorcher tomorrow.

Bureau of Meteorology's Neil Bennett told ABC News the heat has been caused by a slow moving area of "very, very hot air" associated with a high pressure area.

"So we have got this pool of very hot, slow moving air over the region and we think the peak of the temperatures will occur on Friday, and then it will slowly slide eastwards," he said.

Official records show the highest temperature ever recorded in Australia, was in Oodnadatta, South Australia, which hit 50.7 degrees on Jan. 2, 1960. The second-highest was recorded was in Mardie, Western Australia in 1998 — when the temp hit a disgusting 50.5 degrees.

2014 was the third-warmest year in Australia and records show seven of the ten warmest years on record have occurred since 1998, which is in line with what scientists expect due to global warming. Scientific agencies in Japan and the U.S. have found that 2014 was Earth's hottest year since record-keeping began in 1880.
