I have to agree with your definition Bill, as described in your original post.

When I just started out, many years ago, one of the things they
recommended that we do to promote our program was to reply
to all the emails we received with an ad about our program.

This would be totally wrong of course.
First because most people that promote something are excited about
their thing and doesn't want to sign up for something new to promote
in addition to or instead of what they already promote.

Second because if you send your ad as a response to an email
you can be successfully accused of spamming. Even if the one
you respond to spammed you first.

Anyway, are you sure you would want to do business with a spammer? :)

Hi again Roger,

I think my stand on spamming here in Adland (or anywhere else for that matter) is clear enough answer for those that are not too lazy to read.

There is no way in hell I will join any program with anyone that sent it to me as spam.

If people took the time to check the profiles of their potential spam victims they could save them selves a lot of grief. For example I clearly state I am NOT interested in MLM,

I provide TOP quality SERVICES and recommend only TOP quality SERVICES that I do not provide, but marketers do need.
If something does not pass my quality tests then I do not bother promoting it.

Everyone should remember that if they recommend something they are putting THEIR reputation on the line, not the programs reputation.
