NICHOLAS AT SIX

I know a little boy who must be very smart.

He knows what to choose right off from the start.

If Nicholas had his way, he’s take a new gift card,

Rather than some ditty on a simple Hallmark card.

I’m sure that we can see that in finance he’ll go far.

In just ten years from now he’ll have his own new car.

Or maybe he’ll buy a truck cause that’s what boys like.

He’ll probably talk the salesman into trading in his trike.

Give your mom a great big kiss but do it like I do.

Cheeks are there for kissing and a hug or two.

Kissing is just for girls, while we guys just play along.

Just speaking for myself, I prefer a fresh ding-dong. (& milk)

I wish that I could be there to help you eat you cake.

But the weather is so cold. I would freeze for goodness sake.

I hope your birthday’s fun. Kiss Laura’s cheek for me.

Maybe we can come when the weather’s sixty-three.

Little twins were born today to Jim and Kimberly.

Brand new lives that know no wrong, innocent as can be.

Adam too was innocent along with his wife Eve.

But the warning that God gave, they chose not to believe.

So these two, who’ve done no wrong, each bear the stain of sin.

Heaven or hell, it’s up to them, which one they’ll enter in.

Mom and dad can’t choose for them, but they can lead the way.

Such an awesome task is ours to teach them day by day.

Good men die and go to hell along with men of crime.

On judgment day, the good we’ve done, will not be worth a dime.

It’s not good men Christ died to save but sinners like you and me.

Only Christ can cleanse the heart and set the sinner free.

So teach them now the truth of God by word as well as deed.

While they’re young and full of faith, these lessons they will heed.

Riches will be left behind when death comes to our door.

Our children are the only things that last forevermore.
