I am also a Jamaican and proudly so.  I’ve always looked forward to returning home and wherever I go you bet I always have a little something Jamaican with me.

Jamaica is the third largest island of the Caribbean with a population of just approaching the three million mark.

The beauty of this island in the sun surpasses all imagination with captivating views of its mountain side greenery, its white sand beaches, the foods, the fruits, the holiday resorts and last but not least the people all make Jamaica one of the most exhilarating holiday destination in the world.

Just about one million visitors vacation in Jamaica every year.  Among the top earners of foreign exchange for Jamaica are tourism, Bauxite and alumina, and believe it or not, remittances.  Yes, there are many Jamaicans living abroad as well, most of whom take care of back home.  Jamaica has always been a welcoming tourist destination, and for many holiday makers the Jamaica experience has become a yearly family treat.

One of the most memorable spots that every visitor should see once in Jamaica is the Lovers Leap in the south western parish of St. Elizabeth.  This Lovers Leap is accompanied by a brief but interesting legend of two runaway slave lovers who apparently preferred to jump to their death rather than to be recaptured by their plantation owners.  Well, may be love was really blind at that time. 

While that may be the only background story it certainly is not all there is about Lovers Leap.  There is much more to add value to the visit.

At that geographical point is a magnificent cliff-over view of the Caribbean Sea and its coast line with a breathtaking backdrop of miles of mountain side flora and fauna.  This from-the-cliff look-out boasts a most captivating view of almost the entire south coast of Jamaica encompassing the proverbial meeting between the sky and the sea. If the universe had an end it would not be as beautiful.

The Lovers Leap cliff has an almost dizzying hangover which can be very deceptive and might have been to the legendary lovers.  I once threw a stone high into the air from the cliff towards the sea.  At first the stone appeared to be heading for the sea but only to fall just beyond the cliff almost beneath our feet. 

For the avid traveler and explorer, just to stand on the cliff and watch the sunrise and the sunset and feel the gentle breeze of dawn is like nothing else you have ever experienced before.  When next in Jamaica check out Lovers Leap, and once there, allow your thoughts and imagination to leap across this wonderful horizon. You won’t necessarily need a lover to do that.
