Only Christians Need Apply?

What Is A Christian Business Opportunity?
Trina L.C. Sonnenberg

My first thought when I see, 'Christian business opportunity' is a Bible sales position. Forgive me if that ruffles any feathers, but at least I am being honest.

What is the deal? Are Christian business opportunities only available to Christians? Are they sponsored by a church? What is a Christian business opportunity, and what makes it different from other business opportunities? I mean, I Googled the term, and all I really found were links to Christian Opportunity Directories, which contained links to some of the most popular business opportunities like: Reverse Funnel, Passport to Wealth, The 3 Step Plan, etc..

If I were say, Muslim, would I be able to participate in one of these Christian opportunities? If I were an atheist, or Jewish, would I be told that I could not join? And, if so, isn't that discrimination? None of the sign up forms for these programs ask for religious affiliation information, and none of them mention God, or the word Christian, on the sales page; with a few exceptions regarding the latter.

So what qualifies these opportunities as being Christian? Are they endorsed by God, or a church? My guess is that nothing qualifies any of these opportunities as Christian, and that the word is used to inspire people to trust and more easily give up their cash to participate. After all, Christians give money to their churches all the time, so why wouldn't they be ready to give their money to a company proclaiming to be Christian?

A Christian bookstore sells books and gifts pertaining to the Christian faith; that makes sense. The store targets Christians. A Christian business opportunity promotes what, and to whom... Anything to anybody? From what I have been able to ascertain, the 3 Step program is open to anyone with money to join, so what makes it Christian? I'll tell you ... Nothing! These network marketers target Christians, the same as the bookstore does, but with a completely different motivation. They assume that if they tack on the word Christian to the opportunity, that Christians will join on blind faith that they are not being deceived, will not lose their money, and will make buckets of it, just because it is Christian.

I saw an ad for Christian real estate investing. Have the properties been blessed or something? Come on people! Wake up! Your religious beliefs are being used against you by clever marketers.

It seems to me that the network marketing world has reached a new low by marketing opportunities this way. Using religion to sway people into joining a program that has nothing to do with religion or religious beliefs is pretty trashy. Christian business opportunity: selling diet pills, nutritional supplements, vacation packages, timeshares... What's next?

If someone can tell me what qualifies any of these so-called Christian opportunities as Christian, I want to hear from you. Because, to me, unless a business is of the nature of selling religious [Christian] paraphenalia, there is nothing Christian about it. It's just a sales pitch targeted to those Christians gullable enough to fall for it.

Trina,

You have placed some very good information in this post

Christians Beware!

I have viewed many programs that claim to be organized and run by Christians, and have found that the vast majority have compensation plans that are lacking.  Many are binary, or they begin their advertisement with a lie.

I have not found one yet that I believe God would honor!

Beware of the Wolves in Sheep's Clothing and do your due dillgence before joining

There is nothing about any of these programs that  is specifically "Christian".   I am sure they are open to any person of any faith or belief.  This is just an attempt to attract a large number of people who are of the Christian belief system.

I am old enough to remember Amway in it's hayday.  It ran rampant through churches.  Not only Amway but almost every other network marketing scheme.  Where else is there a large group of potential members or customers that can be easily reached.  You could say that the begining of network marketing was in the christian church or at least that it was responsible for it's growth.

But there is nothing christian about it.  To be successful in network marking you have to find a lot of people who will be loosers.  Not everyone who joins can win.  There must be more losers than winners.  That's how downlines work.  But that is not the christian faith as I believe and understand it.

Blessings,

Bob McDaniel

"Organized Religions (any sect) become dogma - dogma becomes the opiate of the masses"..... I forget who quoted that.

It is a Sad but True statement!
