Back to the Basics-How to Build Relationships!
11/30/2007 6:17:50 PM

Hello Everyone,

I have decided to get back to posting more Marketing and Copywriting Tips.  Which is why I started this forum in the first place.  "And the reason that this is titled Back to the Basics. And...

This training will be on How to Build Relationships.

I believe it is connected to the begining of Marketing.  If people don't know you, they probably won't buy anything from you-as I stated in my last training.

Now I don't claim to be an expert.  So if I say something that doesn't gel with you.  Don't sweat it.  Just take what you like, and leave the rest. Fair Enough?

Now the first thing in my opinion on the basics of building relationships is that you need to become friends first.  Especially online in a community such as this.  Why... you ask?  Well...

If someone on the street walked up to you and said "Hey,  I have this great business why don't you hand over $50 and I"ll help you get rich"!  Would you do it?  Probably not!  And neither would I or most anyone else for that matter.

So why is it, that so many people post on other people's forums and blast their ads, prior to even inviting the person who's forum it is to be friends.  That makes no sense to me. If you want to post on my forum, that is fine.  But at least have the courtesy to invite me to be friends first.  Just my opinion!

After becoming friends, it is important for people to trust you.  If they don't trust you, they probably still won't buy anything or join your cause.  Why?  Well...

Why wouldn't you give the person in my last example your money?  Same reason. Because first of all, you don't know him from Adam.  And second of all, You don't have any reason to trust him.  Correct?

So you need to develop trust with your freinds.  How do you do that?

Well there are several ways.  But for me, the most important would be to let them know you have their best interest at heart.  Put their feelings and needs before your own.  Let them know you care.  How do you do that? Well...

You could offer them something of value for free.  Offer to help them with something without asking for anything in return.  Offer them free helpful advice.  Things like that.  And for a while at least.  Just be their friend.

That would definately tell me someone is my friend and they are-or at least appear to be-- trustworthy.

After that, then maybe people would be willing to join your cause or buy something from you.  Before those two basic things.  It's nearly fatal!

Once your friends feel like you are a friend, and they feel they can trust you.  Then you have a basis for a relationship.  Prior to those two thing occuring, You are literally strangers.  And just like the man in the story above. People who know "of you" won't do business with you.  At least until they know you a little.  They need to feel like you care!  Isn't that the way you feel about all your friends in life?  Think about it...  And then let me know.

That's it for this time.

Not sure what will be in my next Marketing & Copywriting Tips Training, but I'll think about it and let you know.  If you have any sugestions, let me know.
