Dear Friends,
It was quite a week. The Humane Society of the United States' Disaster Services teams evacuated animals in peril from fast-moving wildfires, helped to care for animals at rescue centers, and searched for stranded animals. Today I invite you to watch our slideshow about the disaster's impact on animals -- and our teams' work to respond -- over the past seven days.
Our response began a week ago today, when the County of San Diego’s Department of Animal Services called on us to help. We dispatched 20 HSUS staff and 10 National Disaster Animal Response Team volunteers to San Diego. At the height of our response, we had eight teams operating in the area, focusing primarily on search and rescue, and food and water delivery to pets stranded in the evacuation zones.

Hundreds of thousands of pets and countless farm and wild animals have been affected by this disaster. I am grateful to the skilled staff members and volunteers of The Humane Society of the United States -- and all the responders in the area -- for their dedication, and to you for standing with us in times of crisis.Sincerely,Wayne PacellePresident & CEO The Humane Society of the United States
