"DEAR FRIENDS OF RADIO"
|
Dear Friends,
Change isn't inevitable. In this case, it's a tragedy.
The unspoiled Teshekpuk Lake region in Arctic Alaska has been actively protected from oil and gas drilling for decades. Now the Bush Administration is pushing to open this fragile area to the fossil fuel industry.
There are better places to drill than America's key wilderness areas. And there's no better time to speak out.
Tell our government to keep drills out of wildlife habitat in Arctic Alaska. Submit your comments and we'll deliver your message.
There's so much more than breathtaking scenery at stake. Drilling in Teshekpuk would threaten:
- Seven Alaska Native communities that rely on the Teshekpuk's land, water, and animals for their livelihoods.
- Significant wildlife populations, including yellow-billed loons, caribou, brant, and up to a million migratory birds. Birds that breed here come to every one of the 50 states.
- The rare wilderness that surrounds one of Alaska's biggest lakes and one of the world's most important – and most threatened – ecosystems.
Scientists, conservationists, wildlife experts, Native leaders, and thousands of others have already voiced their opposition to drilling in Teshekpuk. Join them by sending your letter to the BLM today.
Click here to submit your letter to the BLM – only 6 days until the deadline!
There's not much time left to influence the final decision. Please take this chance to speak up for Teshekpuk Lake – before it's too late.
Thank you.
Sincerely, Kathy Kilmer The Wilderness Society | |
