I was born in Presidio, Texas. Anyone who knows where that is can collect a three-dollar bill from my secret website. I was in the army in the early 1950s (1LT Infantry, MSC). I have a Ph.D. in entomology, and am a professor emeritus of biology at Kansas Wesleyan where I taught for 36 years. My wife, Colleen, and I moved back to Texas after I retired. We have three sons and three grandsons; all live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area where we live.
Both of my parents grew up on small, diversified farms in Clay Co., Alabama. They grew up doing many of the things described in the Foxfire books. I learned much from them (blacksmithing, sun-drying fruits and vegetables, canning, making whistles from hickory limbs, making charcoal, various vegetable-gardening techniques, just to name a few). I was very active in Scouting, and am an Eagle Scout. I enjoy learning about, and doing, new things. All of this lead me to offer an experience (the Registrar called it a course) called Alternative Living during several of KW's January Interterm. My students and I learned from each other, which is what I like about AdlandPro's community.
I am an amateur radio operator, have been a student of Tae Kwon Do, and dabble in writing. I like to sketch and paint when I have the time, but do not let anyone see my work. (I have a little talent, but only a little, believe me.)
