Comfort in Sorrow
8/1/2007 10:28:07 PM

Hello Friends,

I am writing this with a heavy heart.  My wife and I just found out that my wife's father passed away this evening.  It was quit sudden and unexpected.  I would solicit your prayers for us during this time.

As Christians, we have a blessed hope of Christ's soon return when He will call all those who have fallen asleep in Him to be raised to everlasting life.

"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God.  And the dead in Christ will rise first.  Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.  And thus shall we always be with the Lord.  Therefore comfort one another with these words" (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18  NKJV).

"Behold I tell you a mystery:  We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed - in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.  For the trumpet shall sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed"  1 Corinthians 15:51-53  NKJV).

I recommend that you read all of 1 Corinthians 15.  The apostle Paul outlines the truth of the resurrection and the hope we have because of what Christ has done for us.  As Paul says toward the end of the chapter, "But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (verse 57).
