SOCHI’S COLORS HOSTED ON MOUNT OLYMPUS

photo EPAA Russian cycling – turned — mountain-climbing expedition has hoisted the Olympic colors of the Russian city of Sochi on the tallest mountain of Greece — Olympus. Sochi aims to host the winter Olympic games of 2014.

Six Russian sportsmen left the westernmost point of Eurasia – Portugal’s Cape Roca – to cycle across Europe in support of Sochi’s bid to host these Olympic games. They will finish in the extreme northeast of the Eurasian continent — at Russia’s Cape Dezhnev.

Three cities – Russia’s Sochi, Austria’s Salzburg and South Korea’s PyeongChang – are competing for the right to host the winter Olympics of 2014. The International Olympic Committee is meeting to choose between the three of them this summer. The man who oversees Russian preparations for the Olympics, deputy prime minister Alexander Zhukov, feels Sochi stands a good chance to win.

Sochi has made an exceptional bid for the right to hold the Olympics. In no other city have sports facilities and Olympic villages been located so close together. There will be two nuclear areas. Roofed stadiums for skating events – ice hockey, figure-skating, and curling — will be built on the beach. And it takes no more than 40 minutes to get to the mountainous part of that city, where skiing events may be held.

The Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi is in a race with Austria’s Salzburg and South Korea’s Pyeongchang for hosting the 22nd Winter Olympics in 2014.
Sochi is on the southern seaboard of the southern Russian region of Krasnodar. As a tourist attraction, it boasts an unparalleled combination of subtropical sea and snow-capped mountains. The entire area is part of a national park.
In recent polls in Russia, 63 percent attach great importance to landing Winter Olympic Games. This would be a historic first for this country. At a recent Kremlin news conference, President Putin told a thousand Russian and foreign reporters that his administration would extend every support to Sochi’s bid.
The IOC will name its choice of the 2014 winter host at a session in Guatemala in July.

GO RUSSIA
Nobody will hit the Russian Bear.

I remember Moscow 1980 in LENIN STADIUN Moscow

Misha the Bear

The mascot of the Moscow Olymics was chosen with the help of a public opinion poll conducted jointly by the editorial boards of the TV programme "V mire zhivotnykh" (Animal World) and the newspaper Sovetski Sport (Soviet Sport). The majority of the 45,000 letters received suggested a bear.

GOOD LUCK
