Solomon said, “The rod and rebuke give wisdom, But a child left to himself brings shame to his mother
6/7/2007 2:31:01 PM

Today my friends I'm sharing another nice insight from Tom Moore of Malvern, Arkansas. Share with others and let's help direct the younger generation to God!
Mike

The poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge once had a discussion with a man who argued that children should not be given any religious training, but should be free to choose their own faith when they were old enough to decide for themselves. Coleridge later invited him into his garden. It seems our Mr. Coleridge was a great poet but not a great gardener. “Do you call this a garden?” the visitor asked. “There are nothing but weeds here!” “Well, you see,” Coleridge replied, “I did not wish to infringe upon the liberty of the garden in any way. I was just giving the garden a chance to express itself.”

Solomon said, “The rod and rebuke give wisdom, But a child left to himself brings shame to his mother” (Pro. 29:15). This is the reason this wise king said, “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it” (Pro. 22:6). Parents and grandparents let us not leave our precious children to themselves – in doing so we are setting them up for spiritual failure. Of Abraham it was said, , “For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him” (Gen. 18:19).

Think About It!

Have A Great Day
Tom

Good post, thank you for sharing.
So many times I heard mothers tell me this same excuse when my children were little and we were bringing them up with christian principles, boundaries
and consequences if they broke them!

My own daughter has commented so many times to
me that several of her friends have fallen pregnant in their teens, or fathers in their teens - these girls had to leave school to raise their babies. While most of the others are now married with a couple of children and no prospects, others have separated from their partners or spouses- they have not been out of their home town to live and see how the other half lives around NZ so they have also never travelled.

It may be awhile before Kerie and my son Daryl settle
down, marry and start their families yet when they
do they have would have achieved many of their dreams
and still have their 'heads screwed on correctly'

I am not meaning to come across as judgemental or
self-righteous - these friends of my daughter Kerie
have not utilized their education all the resources
that were available to them (which was a lot of different
possibilities) and 'followed the crowd'.

Kind regards
Amanda

Dear Sharon:

Thank you so much for this forum.

Many years ago I spoke with the graduating class of a local high school and asked them, " who has been the biggest influence in your life, your mom or your dad ? The majortiy of the class ( 200 ) stated that over the yearS it was not thier parents who had influenced them the most, rather, it was their friends.

Though our young people have more on the ball than we want to give them credit for at times, there are those who are on the sea of life with no direction; they seem to have no rudder to steer life's course.

How wonderful it would be to have a way to once again use the class room to place scripture back into the lives of our children... our future..

Again, thank you for sharing this.

I understand Amanda!! I am blessed also to have Great Children. There have been trials and errors as the normal. But all 4 are grown now and headed in the right path. The youngest still needs a little TLC from Momma!!...;-)

The Lord was introduced at a early age for them, Although I was always open and told them that when they grew up,,The Choice was theirs, But until then, The choice is Mine! I have done the right thing because they are all following my direction with their children. That makes me proud.

Most definatley,,My Children were more influenced by me and their Grandparents. On both mine and their Fathers side.

Not so many are that blessed. I have seen this.

Peace, Sharon

Hi Sharon,

This is a great post!  No problems in this house.  Another way to get the point across, do you think our kids would figure out how to tie their shoes, wipe, eat right, be respectful if it isn't taught to them?  No.  Same with teaching them good morals, ethics and responsibility.  Kids have to be taught just about everything else they won't be in the know.  To all you Moms and Dads that took the time to teach your kids... Salute!
