So i quick searched paypal via my browser and got to an official looking site... however some of the clicks opened oddly formatted pages... could this just be my browser? I contacted paypal via there "site" ta ask about this... Does paypal have affiliate links? for joining? that's my question. Beth ps... some websites can't tell i do have IE6 .... they think i have an un known browser or un supported...

As far as I know, paypal does NOT have any affiliate program. Unless something has changed.

I did eBay for a long time and the rule of thumb was to never go to ebay or paypal unless you type the address in yourself. www.ebay.com or www.paypal.com

I was sent hundreds and hundreds of emails trying to get my password. AND THEY LOOKED REAL...

so I don't trust anything that even looks the slightest bit odd.

Of course others may know of some changes, but that is the information I can give you.

Hope it helps.

Kelly :)

Beth, If you email me, I might have a way for you to hide your affiliate links like I did on mine. That way no one can cut off the end. It depends if you have a webhost or not. Also I think yahoo.com might sell domains that automatically mask your affiliate link.

I read a big article about how "some" people can't stand the fact that we might be making money off of them, so they cut our id's off the end.

Let me know if you need any help. I do web-design so I know some codes and web-sites that help generate codes...etc

I don't charge for advice. :)

As already said, the best way to enter the paypal site is to directly enter the url into your browser, thereby eliminating any risk of being tricked into visiting a spoof site.

However, you still need to watch out for 'pharming' -

"Pharming, however, will use a malicious piece of code on the target’s computer to surrepticiously redirect them when they enter a url into their browser. For example, when the victim types in the url for their favourite online auction site they will be taken there, or so it seems. The site will look and behave just as it should, even though it is a fake." (http://www.scamtypes.com/?p=54)
