ANGELS....we know that there's lots in heaven. I have one on earth. My lil 8 year old angel, Emily, just totally blew me away yesterday. Let me tell you about the story of sad tears and happy tears.
Emily "had" the most amazing lil head of flowing blonde locks of hair...never cut more than a trim in all of her young years. Her lil halo flowed to well below her waist and was her reigning glory...her trade mark. Many painful and yet rewarding moments were spent detangling and braiding and blow-drying...and sharing and communicating.
Yesterday...recorded tearfully, but proudly on video...12 inches of blonde beautiful baby hair...preschool hair, grade two hair...grade three...Emily's reigning glory....came off with nothing less than three sure and sharp cuts of a salon scissor.
Emily stood there with such a sweet and surreal expression on her face. This Mom, though proud, felt the tears fall faster and my camera shook.
Emily touched the new blunt ends of her hair...yet to be be styled after the initial "chomp", smiled and said, "Mommy, my head feels lighter."
There were about eight others in the salon at that time all smiling and enthusing over the elastic bound locks that had just been cut from Em...but still studying this sweet child for for her, "post-reaction", ...watching her run her fingers through her newly bobbed lengths, waiting for any hint of needed support or kind words of encouragment.
But this little monkey...she never flinched....she never lost her focus! She knew what she was doing and her next solemn remark, while she fingered her very shortened hair was, "Mom...leukemia kids must feel like their heads are really light. I hope who ever wears my hair can feel it on their head and not be as like, scared or freaked!"
Hmmmm...yes, there are angels in heaven....but there really are angels among us!!!
Emily was proud to make her donation to the cause...to the children suffering with Cancer...can we all as a community...let her know that so many other people also care.
Emily's friend is in grade three at another school and is suffering with leukemia...would you, can you, tell her that you are all praying for her friend? It's so hard for children to perceive that there really is a power outside of their world. A child's world is...(and should be) a tiny secure core...their family, their back yard, their friends, their playhouse...!!!!
When a child's life takes a mysterious turn, a confusing turn of events...their reaction is still no different from us, the adults....they need the warm comfort of the genuine reaction of love and support from all people around them! What a better example of what human kindness, consolation and compassion is there than when a community of people unite, reassure, console and join together in unison to somehow better a situation...better the world...or, geez just make a difference with a prayer.
I would absolutely love to show Emily responses from everyone...this community and further. Send this further....cut and copy it...get everyones prayers....let Emily know you're praying for her friend....!!!
What better way to teach our children that they are the future powers of the earth...than to show them the true positive power of human kindness an love that's behind them!
Not only do we want, hope....and pray for respones to this post...but we welcome any and all feedback, messages, communications etc...to our family message to you.
Sincerely, Sandy
