THE BOTTOM LINE
4/3/2007 8:04:33 AM
Mental freedom is as important as physical freedom-

The Bottom Line More often than we realize, it is the prisons within ourselves that are the most damaging.

In our lives, we sometimes become locked into certain molds set for us; by others, by ourselves. These molds are not permanent. It is important to realize that the worst prisons are the prisons we create for ourselves, within our own minds. I struggle with these concepts always, as I am sure many do. Before we can live in true physical freedom, we must live in true mental freedom. These two poems were written in that frame of mind. Enjoy.

-John P. Dunphy

Why Should The Heart Not Dance?

Why should the heart not dance?
What holds us from happiness,
the light of the morning, the end of the day,
the star struck night and the dew on grass blades?

Why should the heart not sing?
Is there any rule that states that smiles, ear to ear
Should be banned from here? That no one should
Run through the forest, at night, without fear?

Why should the heart not cry when it wants to,
why can’t the heart be free?
Why should the heart not be what it wants
not just what it is told it should be?

Why should the heart not dance?
Did we forget that the point to life is love?
Let it dance in the open, madly in moonlight
in the garden beyond realities, in the garden of forever
that is buried within our dreams.

Purest, Truest Form

Removal of layers of built up emotion.
Shedding skins that hold you within:
the simplest form of you.
That which melts through walls, wrapped in mist and stars.
Come to me, bleed through the earth and meet me at my eyes
Pop the top off my soul like a can of Chicken Noodle Soup;
Warm me in your hands,
drink me down.
Change how I think, see, believe.
Free this inner spirit, let it dance
wild, mad, undomesticated.
The freedom of simple existence
beyond material, mass and the mundane
in the garden;
Step upon the greenest grass of Eden.
Dance with me, free with me,
In our purest, truest forms that cannot be explained with words,
but with joy, realization, understanding
and the forgotten art of being.

Both poems (c)2001,2002 John P. Dunphy
*apologies to Mr. Jeff Johnson for lifting the title of his album "Why Should The Heart Not Dance" for the poem of the same name.

Thanks Kathy, great post.

I feel like I just busted out in a major Jailbreak! Smashed my way right out of the prison described below!

Keep up the fantastic work Kathy!
