Kathy, I can relate to your blog on Yahoo. Verbal abuse from my mother and step-father caused my depression and mental illness. After I worked thru those issues, I no longer required medication.

Hi Kathy,

Your daughter has clearly put in much time and thought and produced a sensitive piece of findings and information.

I come across domestic violence,or rather the effects of it, through my work as a hypnotherapist.

It may interest you to know that in my experience, it is more common for those who witness violence to retain and develop problems than for those who suffer directly.

It seems that we are a lot tougher than we give credit for but when we are faced with seeing those we love being abused it is more uncontrollable and has often longer lasting effect.

There is no excuse in this day and age for this kind of behaviour but unfortunately the violent society that most of us grow up in glorifies violence and fails to promote hope and love. Thank God that there are still lots who care.

You daughter has put together a great topic on Domestic violence. We all see it daily on television and is certainly a BIGGER problem in our country than most really think. As children develop into adults they certainly don't want to have been involved in  domestic violence prior which would certainly mess up the development of their physical, social, mental and emotional health in the years that follow them into adulthood. Prevention in all levels of DM must try to be eliminated in order to stop the major effects that it has on our  children, adolescents and all involved.
