What is Self-Oprah-tization?
3/4/2007 5:40:54 PM
I have been asked how I came about the word Self-Oprah-tization.

well first of all I am a poet and writer, and I love coining words. I have toyed with the idea of inventing brand names as aPR and Marketing Service, because I believe words, names and labels conjure powerful images in the minds of people.

marketing is about communication with your consumer, and communication is made through the effect use of words and their conscious and subconscious images they conjure.

I am also a professional hypnotherapist, and have practiced self-hypnosis very successfully on myself for many years. I have become very familiar with the power of subliminal messaging and subliminal persuasion.

There have been a number of questions raised on the ethics of using subliminal persuasion in advertising. This is indeed an area that I find fascinating, but I will save that subject for a future post thread where I can expand on it in more detail. If however yanyone wishes to comment on that point, it would be interesting to receive responses.

Meanwhile, let me get back to Self-Oprah-tization.
it is based on the power of role models, and mentoring. Learning skills from the lessons, actions and traditions of those who have gone before. In many indegenous cultures, there are Elders, who are revered in their communities for the knowledge, wisdom and expertise they pass down to the future generations. Even in our modern day market concious techno world we have similartraditions.

I not so long agao came across one such group started in The USA called 'Elders of Excellence'

Industry Leaders such as Donald Trump, Bill Gates, Richard Branson, Anita Rodrick, seem to occupy the position of role models for many. Celebrities like Tom Cruise, Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie,  P. Diddy, Naomi Cambell, The Beckhams, Missy Elliot, Madonna are all considered astute in business by their peers and noticeable role models to many.

Then there are motivational role models like Anthony Robins, Louise Hay, Marianne Wialliamson, Iyanla Vanzant, Guy Finley, Chuck Spezanno and others.

My personal all time favourite role models is Oprah Winfrey. She epitomises all the qualities I admire in a leader. Her entire life story is one of determination, faith, humour, sel- belief, transformation, recovery, renewal, and ethical propserity, an area very dear to my heart.

hence the word Self-Oprah-tization summed up as 'If Oprah can do it, the so can I and so can you.'

thank you Oprah for your magnificent example of human potential and possiblity.
Do you have any favourite role models?
I welcome any stories, thoughts, and experiences of role modelling and also mentoring.
