I heard Edison had 1,000's of failed experiments just with the lightbulb.  His focus and determination are why we're not sitting here by kerosene lamp.  It wasn't that long ago either.  My father did his homework by kerosene lamp, that was back in farm country.  All the good inventions have not been accomplished yet!  The great thing about humankind is...we didn't need to be here first to get all the good stuff, there's still a lot left.
