Hello Kathy and Aaron, Thanks for the invite. Everything happens for a reason. I started working 3rd shift for a tool and die company when my boys got out for summer break. The Plant Mgr. insured me that I would be on 1st shift before they started back at school, Because we were going to be getting a 3.5 million dollar contract. I am a single Dad raising my 11yr and 8yr old boys. working nights over the summer wouldn't be a problem my sister and her 3 kids live about a mile from me. She got divorced about 1 1/2 years ago and decided to go back to college to finish her nursing deg. so she could keep the boys thru the summer. Then 2 weeks before school started the Plant Mgr. said he had some bad news. We lost the contract and I would not be able to go to 1st shift. I couldnt believe it. I had 2 weeks to find a 1st shift job or I would have to quit without having any income comming in. So I sent 5 resumes out only to have 1 interview. Then 3days after the interview and only 4days till school. The Plant Mgr. called me into the office to inform me that I no longer work there. Thats usualy not good news, however, it was the best things that happened to me. Now I would qualify to recieve unemployment benifits until I find another job. Bottom Line: The two negative events in the past 3 months of my life have really been blessings. I have been a stay at home Dad for the past three months. It has allowed me to re-evaluate my goals, spend more time working with my circle of friends that has got me where I am today. Most of all it has allowed me to be more involved in my kids life. In fact I am coaching my 8yr olds Basketball team and to meet and become friends with some of the most wonderful people like you. I am glad to have you as a friend Kathy. P.S. It was nice to talk to you last night.

This seems to be the perfect place to remind ourselves of the gracious Statue of Liberty, exactly what she represents, and the beautiful poem by Emma Lazarus that is engraved on the pedestal where she stands to greet all newcomers...

BTW, click on the "Statue of Liberty" link for some fabulous photos..
We are all children of the same Creator, all equal to each other, and all welcome here.  Amen.

Statue of Liberty National Monument

Emma Lazarus’ Famous Poem

A poem by Emma Lazarus is graven on a tablet

within the pedestal on which the statue stands.

The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she

With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

  History of Liberty State Park

The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Photos

On the New York Harbor, less than 2,000 feet from the Statue of Liberty, Liberty State Park has served a vital role in the development of New Jersey's metropolitan region and the history of the nation.

During the 19th and early 20th centuries the area that is now Liberty State Park was a major waterfront industrial area with an extensive freight and passenger transportation network. This network became the lifeline of New York City and the harbor area. The heart of this transportation network was the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal (CRRNJ), located in the northern portion of the park. The CRRNJ Terminal stands with the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island to unfold one of this nation's most dramatic stories: the immigration of northern, southern, and eastern Europeans into the United States. After being greeted by the Statue of Liberty and processed at Ellis Island, these immigrants purchased tickets and boarded trains, at the CRRNJ Terminal, that took them to their new homes throughout the United States. The Terminal served these immigrants as the gateway to the realization of their hopes and dreams of a new life in America.
