Why suggest who other people should vote for?
11/6/2006 4:41:47 PM
If you're not aware of it there's a weekly voting for POTW. POTW is short for Person Of The Week. You can find the forum for voting and nomination here: http://community.adlandpro.com/forums/5796/ShowForum.aspx Basically a way of recognicing people that have a positive impact on this little internet society. Lately I have received several suggestions for who I should vote for this week, with different reasons. I strongly feel that this is not good thing to do. Anyone voting should chose for themself. You should not vote for anyone because someone else tells you to do it. This is quite different from reminding people to vote. You could argue that this is no big deal, but it bothers me. Does it bother you?

LOL-Kid of reminds me of all the propaganda on who and what to vote for in the election! It doesn't really bother me as I already know who I am voting for and their comments won't sway me as I go on my OWN experience ONLY. Tom

What about those that are easily swayed? Should a person become POTW because someone with a lot of friends promotes: "Vote for this person now because I want you to"?

Hi Roger, How are you? A very timely post, considering the U.S. midterm elections tomorrow. I admire your political idealism; in a perfect world, every human being would be all-knowing and capable of making the best decision possible. Unfortunately, we are imperfect entities - and our choices are imperfect as well. Hence, the politics of persuasion or, as some may call it - the persuasion of politics. I enjoy vigourous debate and diverse opinions. That is the essence of democracy as I see it. We must permit all forms of discourse, even unattractive and low quality ideas. Eventually, out of all the ruckus, my hope is that the cream rises to the top. Regarding POTW, it is mostly a popularity contest amongst active AdlandPro members. Just look at the low voter turnout - makes Canadian and U.S. electoral participation look downright impressive! To the winners go the spoils, but I would not lose any sleep if my choice does not win. There is always next week... Cheers my Norwegian friend, Rahul aka Info-entrepreneur RM http://www.info-entrepreneur-rm.net
