ID THEFT - BREACH
10/2/2006 10:31:13 AM
I've said many, many, many times here at Adland...
It's not about how careful you are with your personal information, but how careful others ARE NOT  - those who already have access to info you DO NOT want in the hands of ID thieves.

If you know anyone anywhere who does not have the ID Theft Shield, particularly in Raleigh, NC, tell them to get it now before they do anything else.
It's already late, but if they get full coverage now, they can head off most of the trouble to occur ahead.  There is no time to waste.

As in the story below, and anytime you hear of computers being stolen, it is ALWAYS for purposes of ID theft... the wealth of personal infomation on thousands of people to be accessed at one time.

The Associated Press

RALEIGH, N.C. | State and local government agencies are now required to inform people when their personal information has been lost or stolen under a law that took effect Sunday.

Previously, only businesses were required to disclose such breaches. More than 20 states have similar laws.

Also beginning this week, businesses will no longer be allowed to print Social Security numbers on mailed documents or on cards needed to receive services, including health insurance.

Both laws were drafted to help prevent identity theft.

Last week, 16,000 people were notified by the state Division of Motor Vehicles after a state-owned computer was stolen from an office in Louisburg.
