In ancient times, a king had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the big stone out of the way. Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. On approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. As the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many others never understand. Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve one's condition. Kathy Hamilton(MARTIN) simikathy.net

Hi Kathy,

Thanks so much for the post. What a great lesson. I've always loved the saying "Obstacles are just opportunities in work clothes.".

True, true. Sometimes life places big obsticles in our path. We are judged by how we respond to them. If we are only thinking of ourselves, we do nothing.  maybe we will make comments about it. However if we take the time to act , with God's help, we can move even an immoveable object and be rewarded in the end.

The path, the boulder and the purse, excellent insight. It reminds me of a conversation on the patio this summer with family and I suprised to hear a critque from one of them of my attitude to offer assistance before giving the person a chance solve his/her own dilema or need. From that time forward I've experimented and left them to fend for them themselves. Guess what, now I hear stuff like, I'm selfish, preoccupied with myself and self-centered.
When I come across an opportunity that was available to others and have benefited, I'll let them squirm before sharing too quickly. This will happen this winter when it gets freezing cold and their car won't even turn over because they refused my suggestion to use Amsoil.

He may have learned too that he was rewarded for helping all others that follow along the same path as himself. The obsticle was not his alone but everyones. Sometimes helping others rewards us by feeling good inside other times it may be riches or wealth. The test is that we don't know what the rewards will all be.

Thanks Kathy
