When you hit a milestone such as 135 years you tend to get a little nostalgic.

One day we were looking at some of the old packaging in the Watkins Museum, and one thing caught our eye immediately. It was a tin of "Egyptian Bouquet Talcum Powder" from the 1920's. It was certainly elegant; scenes of the Nile, Sphinx, and Pyramids were illustrated and embossed on the slanted sides (which themselves brought to mind a pyramid), and it must have been a handsome addition to any vanity.

We sent the treasured collectible off to be examined and redesigned by experts in the packaging industry as our in-house artist, Dean Sauvola, painstakingly reproduced the illustrations. Then, the product inside had to be formulated to meet today's standards.

Talcum powder wouldn't do—not with the recent bad press linking talc (albeit weakly) to ovarian cancer when used as a feminine powder. Cornstarch is the preferred medium today for both absorbency and safety, according to the American Cancer Society and other health organizations. The fragrance had to be nostalgic as well, bringing to mind the cosmetic products of the era, and we found a great old-fashioned floral with "powder" notes that fit the bill perfectly.

The result is a truly memorable product that is here just in time for Mother's Day: Egyptian Bouquet Dusting Powder. We'll warn you: it's not cheap. But it is a high-quality product in a container that is simply a classic: a faithful replica of a valued collectible, and a glimpse at what life was like 80 years ago.
