Skimming off the best of Algarve Life (and Beaches) - just for you

Algarve Beach Life News brings you the latest updates of this woman's selection of 'everything Algarve'.

If you like this e-zine,, please do a friend (and me) a big favour and 'forward it on'.

Or, if a friend did forward this to you and you like what you read, please subscribe by visiting...

Drat! Look at the time that's passed already since the last newsletter went out. Now I've gone and missed the end of July.

I had this issue written, but there were guests around, and I need to get to an Internet café to access the website - and just didn't manage...

It's so annoying to need to put 'August' on the title, instead of July!

But, I have been busy in all sorts of other ways, as you'll soon learn.

Since I returned from the UK to take up residence in the new casa, I've been frantically trying to knock things into shape. First, to unpack as many delivery boxes as would make life in an echo-y house bearable.

Then, I had to get it into better shape still, as husband Nev was coming over for a 2-week break. (Not that things needed to be tidier - he is a male, after all - they just needed to be instantly locatable, so he wouldn't get grumpy any earlier than was strictly necessary). Even after I'd unpacked, there were hitches galore.

As you may have read in my 'blog' about our - Algarve Property Purchase - http://www.algarve-beach-life.com/algarve-property-purchase.html - I had to wait for about 4 weeks to have a washing machine delivered. And it arrived around 9 pm one evening, just as my guests and I were about to depart to Olhao for an apres-dinner coffee!

The good news is that it's in (and working) so I don't need to do my 'riverside dhobi-woman' routine any more.

But Nev and I did have plenty of fun while he was here, getting about the Algarve and enjoying as many things as we could fit in that were going on at the time.

Which brings me to the first of my offerings for this newsletter. A description of our visit (definitely only my first this year) to the sand sculptures exhibition near Pera.

All about which you can read in...

#1 Fiesa 2006

It was hotter this year, but that's because we visited in July, rather than September. Fortunately, there are plenty of shaded areas, including bars and cafés where you can recover your cool before exploring more of the wonderful exhibits on show.

I always think that the artistry and skill involved is amazing, and the scale of the event seems to be more ambitious every year.

There's always a 'theme', but it doesn't really matter. The works are amazing, whether they're linked or not.

If you're in Algarve any time up to (and including) September 20 you shouldn't miss - Fiesa 2006 -

http://www.algarve-beach-life.com/fiesa-2006.html

Our next mustn't-miss experience was a result of a kindly reminder from one of this newsletter's subscribers, a motorbike enthusiast. I seem to remember including the information in one of my Algarve Blog posts, and was thrilled that I was back in Algarve in time to see the Moto Clube Faro's 25th meeting, amongst many of the other attractions on offer in...

#2 Faro

All that many people see of Faro is the view from the plane as they land or take off for home. But it has much more to offer than some sunny grassy areas as you await your plane or your transfer transportation.

It is, as I've pointed out, the region's capital - and there's usually lots to do there, even if you don't stay in Faro. (As I regularly point out, the Algarve region is compact enough to attend just about any event you fancy, wherever in Algarve your accommodation might be).

I'd just missed the Dance World Cup that was staged in July, but there's much more coming up, some of which I've listed on this new page - Faro -

Website News:

I get links into the site from some fairly strange sources, and you wouldn't believe some of the search terms that bring visitors to Algarve Beach Life via the search engines (how about 'cartoon tent', for instance?)

But my single page about Algarve Naturism receives some great back links, a few of which are gratifyingly complimentary. I'm not brave enough to try naturism myself, but if I did wish to, I couldn't think of a better climate in which to do it than the Algarve's.

Another subscriber tells me that he's doing a cycle ride from Lisbon to Lagos in November 2006, and has agreed to submit an account and some pics for inclusion as a 'visitor page' on the website. Thanks, John, that's great. But why not more reader input, I ask myself? After all, it's everyone's Algarve. Let's share all the great information that we have about it, so more people can enjoy it! Just use the handy form on the - Information on Algarve page -
http://www.algarve-beach-life.com/information-on-algarve.html -
and we'll all get a chance to share the fun.

Finally...

I'm offering up a prayer of thanks that I'm finally in my first Algarve home. Pretty soon all of the formalities will have been completed, then I can concentrate on enjoying more Algarve activities and sharing them here and in Algarve Beach Life.

Make sure you visit Algarve soon!

And watch out on the website for news of my 'new' Algarve automobile!
Jennifer
