The United States is truly a diverse nation made up of dynamic people. Each year on July 4, Americans celebrate that freedom and independence with barbecues, picnics, and family gatherings. Through the Internet we are learning about and communicating with people of different nations, with different languages and different races throughout the world. Bringing the world closer with understanding and knowledge can only benefit all nations. We invite all nations to celebrate with Americans online this Fourth of July. Happy Birthday! And of course, you're all invited to celebrate Canada Day with us on July 1! As a point of historical interest, democracy wasn't "born" on July 4, 1776. It was already in practice in England and elsewhere in Europe. The Americans just didn't like being treated like 2nd-class citizens and taxed on their imports without representation in the British Parliament. The signers of the Declaration of Independence can be commended for standing up for themselves, but not credited with inventing democracy.
