Hi: I noticed something funny. Thought I'd share it. From time to time (like, daily) we see people posting what I call "drive by ads." You know the ones.... there's no conversation, no questions. Just an ad. Usually for an affiliate program. Usually a copy & paste pitch, finished off with an affiliate url (or 6). I delete those, of course. I *used to* send a nice long explanation. I chose my words very carefully to teach without offending. I'd explain that people don't respond to those types of posts. I'd explain that if the poster would join us and make friends with the people here, they would more likely to look at what the poster is into. That sort of thing. I *used to* get hate mail in response. Some of it was pretty nasty. -- One guy left me a public rating, saying I'm too full of myself and I need a softer approach. ('scuse me, last time I looked this was *my* forum) -- Another *lady* told me that if I'd actually post some helpful information, that might not happen and told me to get off my high horse. huhh? So... I stopped with the explanations. Now I send two words when I delete a drive by ad. "just housecleaning" -- followed by a smiley. Nothing more. Voila. No more hate mail. Go figure.

Hi Linda, I'm glad someone has said it. If people were a little more discriminating about what they send, how they send it and who they send it to, our mail boxes would be less full of "junk" and their mails might get read. A girlfriend of mine said to me today that it was a waste of time to email her on her business email address, and to use her private mail or phone. She reckons she receives several hundreds of these ads a day (minimum) and now she just presses the delete button. Linda, you may or you may not know this but to make a point I am going to give you a method. Prior to the transister and the chips of electonics, we had what is called resistors and capacitors. These were color coded with strips of paint around the item in bands. black (bad),blue(boys), red(rape)yellow (young),green(girls), space(but)violet gives willing with Silver or gold. Each had a numerical number from 1-10. What has this to do with your message. It explaines the need for info and useless info and only the writer knows what the (*&(& he/she is talking about. That is the reason I send only the basic infor. If it strikes their fancy, they click on the url and whammo, they see the info. That is all you have to do in the following. Hello Linda, Thank you for the invitation. I ususally do not post ads and I seldom promote. I do that when I am demanded or only after a private message. Sometimes I set up a topic in my forums with the new programs I joined. I am going to clean up all parasitic ads after an initial message to the poster. Then I will give them place in a form where they can go and post their ads. After that an ultimatum of 30 days is enough. I have not deleted anyone yet. Only thing I deleted is the spotlights , normally after 10 days. Best regards Georgios

Ralph, I for one have seen you posting these links from the first day you joined Adlands, repeatedly. You now state the following I have given you a pitch, How well you catch it is unkown. I think the pitch that you speak of is a wild pitch and catching it is best not attempted, as it is so far off, that after attempting to catch your pitch one would question why they wasted the time in running it down. There are pitches and there are beanballs, yours is not a pitch. Your explanation of the color coded bands of a resisitor makes no point as none of the information found in color coded bands of a resistor is useless. The numbers that you refer to are actually 0 through 9 and not 1 through 10. The standard color coding method for resistors uses a different color to represent each number 0 to 9: black, brown, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, grey, white. On a 4 band resistor, the first two bands represent the significant digits. On a 5 and 6 band, the first three bands are the significant digits. The next band represents the multiplier or "decade". As you can see there is useless and then there is useless, the information needs to not only be usefull but it also needs to be accurate.
