How many Adlanders do you think "get" this?
5/3/2006 10:31:40 PM
Hi: There's a neat post in Seth Godin's blog. It says this; Trust is the scarcest resource we’ve got left. No one trusts anyone. People don’t trust the beautiful women ordering vodka at the corner bar (they’re getting paid by the liquor company). People don’t trust the spokespeople on commercials (who exactly is Rula Lenska?). And they certainly don’t trust the companies that make pharmaceuticals (Vioxx, apparently, can kill you). As a result, no marketer succeeds in telling a story unless he has earned the credibility to tell that story. read that last sentence again; ...no marketer succeeds in telling a story unless he has earned the credibility to tell that story... How many Adlanders do you think "get" this? Internet marketers? Business owners? And why do so many people fail to "get" this simple concept? : ) Linda P.S. You can read the rest of Seth's blog post here if you want.

Linda, Welcome back! It's been a while, darlin'. To answer your question, I think your readers, many of Clay Page's and Ken Sword's readers, and some others get it. I also think it's up to us to gently help the rest get it. Leading by example. I learned it here...so can anyone who has a genuine desire to learn. Cheri

Hi Cheri! ========================= Welcome back! It's been a while, darlin'. ========================= Thank you! Wish this forum had one of those huggie icons. (lol) I've been just buried. Way past the eyeballs. Still am, actually, but finally accepted the fact that I can't keep up with what's coming in and reminded myself to prioritize instead of freaking out and trying to keep up with an onslaught that no human could keep up with. ========================= To answer your question, I think your readers, many of Clay Page's and Ken Sword's readers, and some others get it. I also think it's up to us to gently help the rest get it. Leading by example. I learned it here...so can anyone who has a genuine desire to learn.. ========================= Oh, I agree completely! 200% completely. I guess what I was getting at, more, is wondering WHY people think that way... and I don't mean that in a negative way, but in a curious way. Kind of like if I saw someone walking into a wall repeatedly and asked them what they're doing. They say "trying to walk through the wall." I ask "Why do you think you can walk through the wall?" lol They say "I saw a guy on tv do it." OH. Okay. Well then, at least I know WHY you think that could work. lol. See what I mean? It makes me curious why people do the things they do. Not that I'll ever have all the answers - I'll never have a fraction of them. But Mom always said curiosity was my middle name. : ) Linda

There's a small number here that fit into this catagory. Going one step farther, on the topic: "...no marketer succeeds in telling a story unless he has earned the credibility to tell that story..." The credibility of the products' claims and supported by their performance gives such a marketer his earned success. Communicating that story with accuracy, passion and consistency are the nutrients that produce the harvest of success. Trust is like the sunshine that produces the reward of the harvest.

Hi Linda, Have you ever noticed that most of the people in Adland who are literaly hawking their opportunities, don't even bother to change the wording of what is on the original website. They copy verbatim what was sent to them and expect others to do the same. The hype is so tantalizing, to some, Big Money, No Work. Credibility doesn't even factor into the mix. They want something quick and they want it now. So they use the same hype that reeled them in, on other people. Then when the opportunity turns sour they go on to the next quick money opportunity. It seems like it is a vicious circle. Your Good Friend Deborah
