heres her letter:
Hello Kathy. I haven't been on much lately. As you probably already know, Stephen isn't quite set yet. Before we go back to Kentucky to get the rest of our belongings, and truck, I have an appointment with the Orthopedic Surgeon. He will let us know the progress of healing in Stephen's legs. I am hoping it is a better prognosis than his jaw. The oral surgeon I took him to yesterday, after finding a lump in Stephen's cheek, said his jaw was set all wrong and there are "multiple" fractures in his UPPER and lower jaw as well as the joint. He won't do the surgery himself because it will require an entire group to do it. He told me and my husband that "Total Reconstruction" would be necessary in order for him to heal properly. He also said the lump was indeed a bone that, obviously, was the result of the incompetent staff in Huntington who was changing his trach. They had shifted the jaw while holding him down to do the change. We still don't know why they felt they had to hold him the way they did, and had we not left the room when asked, we could have prevented it. We are going to have to make several trips to Boston Massechusettes to get it evaluated, then once the surgery is done, we will have to find somewhere to stay, food, etc. We are planning to have the surgery done very soon so the feeding tube can be removed sooner. They decided, since his jaw will have to be wired again, to leave the tube in place, just in case. I can only hope he doesn't need a trach again. This is just one more stressful thing to deal with. Right now our biggest concern is food. We used all the donations and our money on gas to get here, as well as the truck rental, and left nothing for food. That was real smart!! lol Anywayz, as my 15 year old daughter says, we are doing okay here. They can actually go for walks and I don't have to worry too much about traffic. I am also glad we have access to the beach on Lake Champlaine. It is right across the road from us. It is beautiful to look at from my kitchen...and my porch. Stephen flies around the house in his wheelchair, but gets depressed easily, and wants to go for long walks, rain or shine, cold or warm...he doesn't care if we don't want to freeze!! But we do our best to make him happy. We will survive, but it gets hard sometimes to see past the problems we are now facing. I have been told I am a strong woman and have held up well, but it isn't an easy task to keep the entire family going, as well as taking care of Stephen. Sometimes it gets really tough. Oh, my address is: 489 Lakewood Drive Swanton, VT 05488 I guess I have taken up enough of your precious time, so I will sign off for now. Thanks for asking, and thanks for being my friend, Lola
