Keep Your Standards High
3/19/2006 3:21:46 PM
Hello Everyone, The word "standard" has a number of meanings, two of which come together in an interesting way for each individual: 1) A distinctive flag, banner, or ensign of a person, group, or organization. 2) An acknowledged measure of comparison of value; behavior that is a gauge of self-control. Each of us, especially a businessperson or professional, needs to raise our personal standard in the community and marketplace in order to be successful. We tend to utilize a variety of advertising and promotional techniques, however the one element that has the greatest impact on our reputation in the community and the marketplace are our personal standards of behavior. You already have a set of personal and professional standards that are reflected in everything you do. Are these standards high enough to give you the reputation in the community and the marketplace that you desire? Take time to examine your standards and determine which ones need to be raised. Some of your standards may be too high or at least too rigid to be realistic. Also make sure your standards are consistent with your values, otherwise they will be nothing but a burden to you. You need to set your own personal standards for the way you treat yourself and others. Both are important since you cannot be your best for others unless you take good care of yourself. So set standards for your appearance, work ethic, health (physical, mental, and spiritual), recreation, personal growth, etc. Then set standards for the way you treat others such as integrity, respect, courtesy, honesty, punctuality, etc. Once you have determined the standards you want in place at this time in your life, it's important to put in place some systems and procedures that will support these standards and ensure that you will adhere to them consistently. Your goal: To develop and maintain consistently high personal and professional standards. The result: You will develop a strong reputation in the community and the marketplace and you will experience a greater sense of self-respect and self-esteem. Your assignment: Evaluate the key standards for your personal and professional life. Be sure they are consistent with your needs and values, then set them high enough to give you the reputation you desire. Once you have reaffirmed them, be sure to put in place the necessary systems and procedures to ensure that you will adhere to them consistently. -by Sandy Karn Wishing You the Very Best! Good article Leanne. High personal standards are important in internet marketing as well as other areas. There are so many fake "experts" out there just out to make a buck. I prefer dealing with people who have good standards in their area of business. DonnaZ

Good article, enjoyed it thoroughly. One additional point, in the market place we have chosen, and in our personal life, and in our interaction with others, we need to set our own standards at least as high as the community expects, expecially those those we interact with, and preferably as much higher as we can.
