Secure Socket Layer (SSL)
2/16/2006 2:04:02 AM
Hi Linda and everyone else who reads this! I've been looking at different SSL options the last few days. I've been to Verisign.com, RapidSSL.com, Godaddy.com, thawte.com, Geotrust.com and so on... They have alot of SSL options and the price is all the way from 50-100's of dollars. I have no idea what to make of all this because I don't have alot of knowledge in this area. If someone could clarify this for me and give me some directions it would be great. I dont have a registered business or anything like that, I just want to put up a website and sell information electronically. Thank you! Allt the best, Joakim

you first need to establish how you are going to orocess payments. Once you know the answer to that you can decide of you even need your own SSL certificate. So how are you going to process payments?

Hi, If you use PayPal then yes they have the SSL certificate so you really do not need one. I think however you are going to have to do some more research. If you are selling downloads are they yours or someone elses? If your then how will you offer the download link in a manner that it allows only one download per purchase. As an example let us assume that I purchased a download from you and in doing so I get a link to go to to download the product, then not being a nice guy I give the same link to other people that did not pay and they also download the product. YOu have a lot to plan out and understand about how this sort of a website will work. IF you are reselling someone elses products then they will collect the payment and pay you. If you do not understand how to develop this type of a website I think it might be time for you to look into paying a professional designer that knows the different types of websites and programming that your site will require.
