I wish I could have had a teacher like Jane Elliot. She sure knows how to get a point across. I think of a few of those things I have said myself and thought they were good, but see they are not right. EXample: I don't care what color you are or weather you have stripes of purple with green polka dots.
Thanks Jim for these videos, helps to understand just what I have been doing for many moons that is not right.
Sure is great waking up.

I disagree with one thing this lady said. Why do I disagree? Because I was not taught in my schools to be prejudice or racists. And, my teachings first came from the home and not school!!! This is one of many problems we have today and have had for many years now. Parents expect the schools to teach and raise their children.

I was raised mostly by my mom, as my parents were divorced when I was 3. When I was old enough to realize differences in color and all, she sat me down and explained to me there really was no differences. She said, they bleed just like we do, they hurt just like we do, they have feelings just like we do, they are just as human as we are, therefore do not treat them any different than how you would want to be treated. Then she asked, do you understand me? I said yes. Then she said, you will hear others and see others talk and treat them differently, do not listen to these peoples words and do not think their actions are okay, it is not okay, do you understand me? I said yes. Then she said one last thing to me, do not ever think you're better than anyone else, you're not! We are all equal she told me.

So, if prejudice/racism was taught in my schools, I did not recognize it, as my mom must have brain washed me well.

About a month ago I watched an Oprah Movie called ("The Great Debater's") and I was very appalled to see a bench in the beginning of the movie that had writing on it which said "White's Only". It was based in a little town called Marshall, Texas. I've never even heard of this town in Texas. Anyway, it was a wonderful movie and in portions of it, it portrayed the idiocy of the human race and how people discriminate. When I watched it, what I saw were humans learning how to be assertive in there debating, staying with the facts, and not reverting to blame and name calling during their debates!!! Something our politicians need to learn along with much of the human race!!! The college (Wiley College) these students were attending, the students ended up being the Champions. They won all but one of their debates against a slew of other colleges. Why? For the answer I think everyone should watch this movie!!!
